How to Stress Less as a SAHM (in just five minutes)

I shared a ‘day in the life’ post last week and my average day is virtually non-stop until little man goes to bed. After he is asleep I have about 2 hours to catch up on work, finish up any cleaning I wanted to get done for the day, and relax. I don’t prioritize down time for myself and I really need to as I am a much better mother when I’ve had some time to feel like myself again.

Last week I got something that would help me do just that. It’s this cute package from Starbucks with their new Cozy Collection.

IMG_6299Being a stay-at-home Mom has been just about as stressful as I anticipated it would be. There is zero downtime while my son is awake. I’m sure if I worked outside the home I would have a whole different set of stresses. I don’t think either ‘side’ has it any worse, or better, just different.

Travis like to tell me he doesn’t get a break all day either since he has to go to work for 8-10 hours a day.

Um, do you get to drive 15-20 minutes each way without a baby crying in the backseat? Yes? Then you get a break.
IMG_1606When I get a few minutes of alone time I usually spend it being productive in some way still. Crafting, cleaning, reading….

I’m working on spending a few times a day doing nothing.

Just sitting. Breathing. Being.

When I was in graduate school I took a class on Buddhist Psychology. Part of the course entailed meditating in class, and for homework assignments. One of my favorite assignments was to meditate on food. It’s also a principle involved in Intuitive Eating. So many of us (myself included!) will sit in front of the TV and zone out while snacking and eat far more than we should, and not even remember enjoying a single bite!

Can you remember the last time you took a minute to truly savor something? An aroma? A dessert? The sound of silence?

I love having some sort of sweet treat every day. Hot cocoa is a favorite of mine since it’s not high in calories, but feels so indulgent. I was completely skeptical that Starbucks could create creamy, rich, cocoa using K-cups but I was so wrong!
