23 miles this weekend + All the carbs

This post is 90% about food so if you are hungry, don’t like to see boring photos of shit people eat, or hoping to see me eat a vegetable for once this month just move along.

We spent the weekend at Travis’s place in Alabama. Friday night we went to Cheeburger Cheeburger (yes, the ‘s’ is missing) and got our usual salted caramel & cheesecake shake to split. I ordered some of the fried macaroni and cheese to try and LOVED it. Sonic used to have some years ago that they took off the menu after a few months and my life was never quite the same.
Weekend`I also ordered their veggie burger for the first time with provolone and onion rings on top. Probably the best veggie burger I’ve ever had. I’m always apprehensive to order them at a restaurant since I often get super dry, tasteless patties. Definitely not the case here. I think this may become a weekend fixation anytime we are up here. Oh, and fries with cheese and jalapenos happened.
WeekendSaturday morning I went out for a solo 8 mile run. The weather was perfect. It was in the 40’s at night and around 70 during the day. Weekend2That afternoon we headed into the thriving metropolis of Dothan. It’s the nearest ‘big city’ and we wanted to do some shopping and go out to eat. I never drink coffee or get anything from Starbucks but I love trying whatever Travis orders. He got this salted caramel frappuccino and I can safely say it was the best coffee drink I’ve ever had. You can even see the sea salt on top of the whipped cream! Travis thought it tasted too salty but the camel inside of me totally disagreed. Weekend4We headed over to Mellow Mushroom for a late dinner (it was like 7 p.m. which is super late for us.) We started off with some pretzels and their mouth-watering beer cheese sauce. I normally order my favorite salad there but I wanted to carb up for my long run on Sunday so I went with a small pizza. Half Holy Shitake and half White Rabbit. I love that our sweet waitress suggested I just get half of each when I told her I couldn’t make up my mind!

Sunday morning we went out for a 16 miler. Travis ended up doing 11, and I hit 15 and felt like calling it a day. I could have done one more but I kind of made up the route as I went along and by the time I got home at 15 miles I certainly didn’t feel like running around the block a few times! We got a late start to the run so I wasn’t home until nearly 11. I decided the best thing I could do was skip breakfast and eat the other half of my pizza from last night. Running makes me do great things like that.Weekend7We both went into a coma on the couch for a few hours after pizza brunch. Around 2 we finally got up, showered, and went grocery shopping. I felt like having cheese and crackers (with sweet tea) for dinner so that’s what happened. And a cold kitkat bar for dessert. Didn’t I warn you this post would be full of not-quite-the-healthiest food photos? Weekend6I always feel so weird writing up my weekend posts. I feel like I just do the same things every weekend (because I do) and that it must seem painfully boring to read. I washed my car Saturday for the first time in months. That was exciting. We watched the new movie Neighbors Saturday night. That was not as exciting.

What do most people do on the weekends? Are we average? Or are we missing out on doing ridiculously awesome things?

    I’m not really one to ask about what’s “normal” for a couple- as I am not part of one, but what you and Travis did doesn’t sound so far off from what I used to do w/ my ex (replace running with the gym I guess?) I also took less pics of my food. ;) (I love your food pics, don’t stop!)

    This weekend was pretty tame (as usual). Saturday I attempted to get some writing done, but the cafe I went to was too loud, so I came home and moved my desk around while my flatmate cleaned the kitchen up. We then caught up on Downton Abbey.

    Sunday I ran some errands and went out for a bit to the Doctor Who society meeting. I didn’t stay long, as I still had more work to do (and my Bailey had been acting weird so I was worried- the things we do for our cats!) I’m also getting used to going out and socialising more often. After a decade of not doing it, I need to take it in small steps!

      Lol – poor Travis is probably so embarrassed every time we go out to eat together and I whip my camera out.

      I love tame weekends! I haven’t watched any Downton since season 3. I was SO SO upset by the finale I don’t think I can ever forgive the show. I also feel like I need to give Dr. Who another chance. Socializing is extremely exhausting to me in large doses. I find going out in a group once a month is more than sufficient for me.

      I find myself thinking at least once a day about how damn lucky I am with him. I’ve been through 15 years of douchebags – it’s about time.

  • I’ve never been to Cheeburger Cheeburger (because I didn’t know they had a veggie burger!) but now it sounds like I need to try it. And YES to Mellow Mushroom. Their pesto pizza is my favorite!

      Ahh I need to try their pesto pizza! That was another top contender for me.

      Definitely try Cheeburger Cheeburger’s veggie burger. I’m forcing Travis to take me there again this weekend.

    Your weekends sound completely normal. :) Mine was way busier than usual. Saturday involved running errands, dinner, and Gone Girl with friends. Sunday was Color Me Rad, taking my foster kittens to an adoption event, then a quiet dinner at home with my sweetie.
    What is on The Rabbit pizza?

      Awww foster kittens! I did that once and could hardly give them back when the time came. I can’t find the description of the white rabbit pizza online but here’s the one for the other half (Holy Shitake) which was DIVINE: A blend of Shiitake, Button and Portobello mushrooms with Caramelized Onions on an Olive oil and Garlic base with Mozzarella and Italian MontAmoré cheese drizzled with Garlic Aioli and a spritz of Black Truffle Oil. Garnished with fresh chives and shaved Parmesan.

        I know I would love the Holy Shitake (great name!)

        I miss my foster kittens (and have a really hard time giving them up too) but it’s easier for me to move on when the next batch arrives. And there’s always a next batch. :)

  • If I miscalculate the route and wind up too close to home I can never make myself go longer. It’s like my mind tells my body we’re home now and I have nothing left.

      Yeah Travis wanted to swing by the house around mile 8 as our pit-stop and I told him absolutely not. If I had gone inside to use the restroom and grab something to drink there’s no way I would have kept running!

    Sounds like what my boyfriend and I do – go out to eat, work out, and watch movies. I love your blog by the way. Very motivating. I, too, am a teacher (high school) and am trying to get better at running and being healthy. Your blog is so entertaining to read. Thank you!

      Thank you! I know how hard it is to find time to cook healthy meals and workout on a teachers schedule. I’m fortunate all of my classes this term don’t start until 11 a.m. or later!

    All the carbs yes, but do I love it? YES! This week is carb loading week, so you are giving me ideas…as I am making sure almost everything I eat is carbs….so I can stock up and fuel my way around that marathon this weekend. I have always wanted to try mellow mushroom, and you only reinforced that in me, and made me crave a soft pretzel!

    Sounds like a great weekend! With some great food! I long for the day when I have weekends off – or just two consecutive full days off on a regular basis. I usually get Sunday afternoon off (sometimes all day Sunday) and spend it catching up on housework, prepping for the upcoming week, and a good dose of lazing around with the hubby.

      I really miss doing housework and cooking on the weekends! I can’t wait for December to get here when I’m living with Travis and not driving 5 hours on the weekend to see him :/

  • That all looks delicious!! I miss running so much because of the ALLOFTHETHINGS eating weekends you get :( Hopefully my hip will eventually be sorted out, but for now I live through your long runs, and epic meals!
