I am a Jillian Michaels fanatic.
The first home exercise DVD I purchased was her 30 Day Shred and there is a reason it has been number 1 on Amazon’s bestseller list for Fitness & Exercise for the last year!
I own almost every JM DVD in existence so I will eventually review them all but had to start off with praising her original, 30 Day Shred. I started using this about 2 years ago when I first started exercising again. I believe at that time I was going to the gym a few times a week to do some cardio and a little bit of weight training. I anticipated being able to blow through level 1 on this DVD and that was absolutely not the case. I gave up on this program a few times – doing the level 1 work out for a few days then quitting for a few weeks. Finally, I stuck with it and I have been hooked (and in great shape) ever since! The intro to the DVD can be a bit long (and you can’t skip it) so start it while your getting your weights/mat together. JM’s style is a bit bootcampish in that she’ll be strict and try to push/motivate you. I find that style really works for me but others on Amazon complain she’s to ‘in your face’. I’ve also read that if you have bad knees her workouts are tough as she does incorporate plyometrics (jump training).
My biggest tip for anyone starting out with this dvd, or any practice in general, is don’t give up. You will be sore, you will hate doing it sometimes, and you will find 1000 excuses not to work out but in the end it is so worth it. I remember when I could barely get through level 1 and now I’ll go back and watch it and am amazed with how far I’ve come.
