While my weekend was fairly uneventful my Dad kicked things off with a bang by completing the Half Marathon I had registered for in 1:59:22! For those of you unfamiliar with run times – a sub 2 hour half marathon is a pretty big deal (and my ultimate goal one day!)
While Dad was off running 13.1 miles I spent the morning stocking up on health food stuffs at Everman’s and hanging out at our newly revamped public library. Accidentally caught this guy in the frame as we were both walking in. Kid’s got swag.
Saturday afternoon I made both of my most recent obsessions: a fruit and nut salad and another batch of my 5 calorie popsicles. This salad is pear, walnuts and cranberries (ran out of goat cheese or that’s normally included.)
Sunday I spent most of the day working but I knocked out a 6 mile run in the morning! I still had to stop and stretch quite a few times so the total time was really around 90 minutes. I’m hoping to run again Tues and Thurs and if I can get 4-5 miles in on those days without having to stop every half mile to stretch than I’m going to go ahead and do the 15k on Saturday. As of right now I have zero pain in my knee so I’m hopeful I can make it!
I have so many amazing things to look forward to this week. I’m meeting with my future employers today regarding the personal training gig I’m starting soon. I’ve got a hair appt on Tuesday (contemplating chopping it all off – I won’t) and most of my classes are having their first exams late this week/early next week so I don’t have a lot of school stuff to prepare. That all means I’ll be spending more time on the site, shooting videos, coming up with some exercise routines and writing up some of the posts you all requested!
My workout today is going to focus on abs and I’m going to try this ridiculous looking ab challenge before hitting my usual Jillian Michaels Six Week Six Pack. If any of you are brave enough to try the challenge with me, let me know what you think! Oh, and speaking of challenges, I’m organizing one. Details soon!
I’d like to end things sharing a quote I came across this weekend. I posted it on Twitter without knowing who the person was:
“Do all that you can, with all that you have, in the time that you have, in the place that you are.” – Nkosi Johnson
In and of itself that quote was mind blowing to me. So simple and yet it rang very profoundly with where I’m at in my life. Something urged me to google his name and I found out he was a 12 year old boy from South Africa born HIV+. At the time of his death he was the longest living child born with HIV.
#MindBlown
What’s your favorite quote?

Wow extremely inspiring words from such a young child! I have typed that up and put it on my office wall
Isn’t it humbling to know where those words came from? So glad you enjoyed it!
“in the place that you are”
THATS what I need to remember.
That part of the quote in particular reminds me of another quote I love and try to live by – “Be here now.”
Don’t chop all your hair off! I love your hair! Although I’m sure you’d still look gorgeous with it chopped off :)
And I love that quote!
For years I’d go through a cycle of letting it grow out super long (a few inches longer than it is now) and chopping it off shoulder length. I haven’t had it short for maybe 6-7 years now. I love long hair, but it’s SO much work and with the 100 degree summers coming the idea of short is appealing! I’d totally regret it though. Maybe. I feel once I hit 30 I may need to let the long locks go and embrace a short, sleeker style!
I did that ab routine about a week and a half ago before we traveled and then got back from traveling and got sick. It is tough! I plan to add it in regularly while getting back on track this week. And my treadmill gets fixed tomorrow afternoon!
It was definitely tough of my upper body but I was disappointed in how many calories it burned (only 50 in 15 minutes!) I think I’m going to create a new version of the routine that adds in some high intensity intervals like jumping jacks and high knees to get that heart rate up.
I did it in addition to several workouts I found on pinterest and made it a 45 min workout total.
I definitely like it in conjunction with something. If you find any good workouts on Pinterest please share!
I did these three in addition to the ab workout and it was pretty good. Definitely felt it. http://pinterest.com/pin/227924431113389424/

My treadmill gets fixed tomorrow (omg finally and YAY) and so I want to do the ab routine after my runs. Definitely not a calorie burner on its own.
Awesome – checking them all out now!
So jealous you have your own treadmill >.<
Thank you for sharing the quote I really like it and will write it on my 2013 inspiration board
If you have a moment you should check out that kid’s bio. Such an incredible person. Hoping to have some time this week to watch some of his speeches he gave!
“You don’t get to choose how you are going to die or when. You can only decide how you’re going to live.” ~~Joan Baez
I also have a mug from when I was down in Australia that says “be here now”. It reminds me to live in this moment, regardless of what has happened in the past, or could happen in the future.
“Be Here Now” by Ram Dass is one of the most life changing books I’ve ever read! I LOVE that quote by Joan Baez!
Awesome quote! Must remember that…
It’s been running through my head since I came across it! Wonderful thing to have on mental repeat :)
Oh please no you did not just say swag.. :D A few things: Congratulations to your dad! That walnut and pear salad looks awesome and good luck with the abs challenge, seriously, it BURNS! Let us know how you get on, and looking forward to this new challenge!
That’s quite inspiring that quote, especially from a child :) I think my favourite is: “If you want to have more, you must become more.” – Jim Rohn. Have an awesome day, Erica!
I definitely felt the challenge more in my arms than abs – but that’s because of the ridiculous Bob Harper workout I did on Saturday.
I love the Jim Rohn quote!
Wow. That quote is amazing. Thank you for sharing it. Congrats to Dad!! And so glad to hear that your knee is feeling good!
Thank you! I’m trying to think SUPER positive that I’ll be able to make that race on Saturday!
Damn… nice sub-2 finish! Jealous… someday I will pull that off!
I know, right?!
I think my life has been changed by that quote!! Your blog is amazing!! Mine is brand new and just starting up, Im only 3 weeks in and with no comments on posts or followers I want to give up!! but you have given me the inspiration to carry on! Thanks so much x
Don’t give up! Most people have to blog for at least a year before they start seeing regular traffic. I don’t think I received my first comment for about a month when I started!
