5 Things I can do in 5 Minutes to Take Care of Myself

Thank you Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ for sponsoring this post. Head to your local retailer to get started on your oral healthcare routine! Since becoming a Mom the amount of time I have to spend on myself has decreased dramatically. I know that when I take care of myself I feel better, and am a more loving and patient parent, so I still try to carve out some time every day to focus on things that make me feel rejuvenated.

For me, that focus is almost always on something related to health and fitness (and occasionally I just spend an hour reading in bed.) Prior to motherhood my workouts might take 90+ minutes a few times a week, I’d spend an hour getting ready to go out, and a few hours on the weekend doing food prep.

Oh, those were the days!

Thankfully, I’ve found ways to incorporate healthy habits and fitness into my day without taking time away from my family or work. Here are a few of my favorite 5 minute health and fitness routines;

Shorter, Higher Intensity, Workouts

I don’t care how busy or tired you are you can always workout for 5 minutes! A 150 lb woman who gets her heart rate up to 160 (moderate to high intensity) can burn 50 calories in 5 minutes! I like to set the timer on my phone and pick out five body weight exercises to do for a minute each. My favorites are always lunges, jumping jacks, squats, high knees, butt kicks and a plank. No equipment needed but it’s an awesome burn.

Dry Brushing + Ice Rolling

Last month I picked up a dry brush and ice roller and I love them! Dry brushing is supposed to help with your lymphatic system and circulation, and the ice rolling just feels amazing on my face after a workout! Splashing your face with cold water has a similar effect, but the added massage amps up the pamper factor.

Tracking Macros

Every night before I go to bed I’ll plug in what meals I think I’ll eat the next day. Not only does this help me stay on track with my carb cycling, but it makes it easy to hit my macro/calorie goals for the day. Plus, I don’t waste time trying to decide what to eat when I’m hungry since the whole day is planned out already!

Oral Health Care

After numerous oral surgeries and thousands of dollars invested into my pearly whites I never skimp investing time in my oral hygiene routine. Did you know your teeth can absorb minerals? Colgate Enamel Health Mineral Repair helps absorb minerals, such as calcium.

Also, we use moisturizing lotions and conditioners to replenish our skin and hair, and by just brushing with Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ Toothpaste twice a day you can strengthen weakened enamel by replenishing it with those minerals. Learn more about #ColgateEnamelHealth!

Foam Rolling

I fell out of the habit of foam rolling once I stopped running regularly in my pregnancy,  but I’ve recently started spending a few minutes doing it after my hard strength workouts and I’ve noticed such an improvement in my recovery time. Foam rolling is my free, convenient, form of a deep tissue massage.
