Celebrating our First Fathers Day

This post is sponsored by Uncommon Goods.

Travis is an amazing Dad. He helps out with our son as much as he can, he is always trying to think of fun new things we can do together as a family that a 9 month old may actually enjoy, and his patience is never-ending with our son. When baby starts crying for the 3rd time at night Travis is just as calm as though he woke up overlooking an ocean in Hawaii on vacation. Seriously - I don't get how he can do that.

I wanted to make his first Father's Day special but he's so hard to buy for. Especially since I always get the, "don't get me anything" speech. He is much more appreciative of acts of kindness and spending quality time together, so I tried to think of a few different ways to show him how much I appreciate him.

Baking for him

Travis eats pretty healthy so I'll be making up a batch of the amazing Oh She Glows glo bars next week.

I will also make some jalapeno chicken taquitos for dinner and if that was all I did he'd consider it a perfect Fathers Day!

Give him meaningful gifts

Even though he is hard to buy for he always appreciates it when I get him the perfect gift. This past winter he became a bit obsessed with the Northern Lights. Anytime he got an alert on his phone that the aurora activity was high he'd book it to the nearest viewing spots to try and get photos.

While browsing Uncommon Goods I saw this Northern Lights sand art I knew it would be the perfect gift for him.

On the off chance Travis saw this post I went ahead and gave him his gifts early and we are both in love with this. Every time we flip it upside down it takes a few days for all the sand to fall and it always falls in a new pattern. It's absolutely gorgeous in person. I don't remember this, but apparently Travis mentioned a few weeks ago it would be cool to have something like this.

It's hard to get a great photo of the piece since the light always reflects off the glass but here is one from the Uncommon Goods website. Northern Lights sand art

I also picked him up a cute book to fill out, a beer pretzel kit and some beer pretzel caramels. I may have helped him finish off those caramels already. They have lots of fun gift ideas you can check out hereIMG_2120

Spend quality time together

Next weekend we will spend Father's Day hiking and having a picnic. Travis loves taking little man outside, and he's not quite old enough for the traditional father-son fishing dates so we will find a new trail to explore and bring along a lunch. IMG_1657

After we get baby to bed that night we'll probably snuggle up to watch one of his favorite movies.

When Travis opened his gifts he was going to throw the bag away. I stopped him, and he was surprised I'd keep it since I could only reuse it for Fathers Day again next year (versus generic gift bags that I could use for many occasions.) I told him he's going to be getting his Fathers Day gifts in this exact same bag for the next 50 years. IMG_2130
