Day in the Life of a WAHM with a 5 Month Old

7:30-8 a.m. Baby, who is sleeping next to me in his Rock N Play, wakes up. I'll bring him into bed and nurse him while I check my emails, and zone out on social media. 8 a.m. Head downstairs to make breakfast. I'll warm up a cup of water for the Mothers Milk tea I drink, and start a bowl of oatmeal. While that's cooking in the microwave I'll change baby, and set him up on his activity mat. He will usually stay here for about 30 minutes before starting to fuss. Plenty of time for me to enjoy breakfast. IMG_1553

8:30 - 9:30 a.m. We will kill time playing in the living room, maybe picking up a little bit.

9:30 a.m. I nurse him on one side and pump the other. I've been pumping once in the morning for two months now and have about 100 oz of breastmilk saved up. It's nice to have on hand for when I'm away from him for more than 2 hours, or we plan to go somewhere I don't want to have to nurse him at. He will usually fall asleep for about 30 minutes after he nurses. He only naps in my arms right now, after eating, but I always nurse him on the couch next to my laptop so I use this time to grade papers or work on blog stuff.

10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Workout. I put babe in his Pack N Play and workout for as long as I can before he starts to fuss. Usually 30-45 minutes.

11:15 a.m. - 12 p.m. I'll bring babe upstairs and put him in his swing while I wash up and get ready for the day. I always hope he will fall asleep in here, but it never happens!

IMG_1569 Noon - 1 p.m. Nurse little man again and he will usually fall asleep after for another 30-45 minutes.

1 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. I'll make myself lunch (and I'm starving by this point) and put on a cartoon for him to watch while I eat. He loves Daniel Tiger and Spongebob! If we have errands to run I'll leave the house now to go do them, otherwise we hang around the house to clean, or I'll work on taking photos for upcoming blog posts.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Today we are staying in so I put him in his baby seat and clean the kitchen, fold and put away laundry, and either clean the bathrooms or sweep/vacuum. IMG_1557

2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. time to nurse again! He will usually take a 60-90 minute nap after he eats this time. I'll get the majority of my work done for the day during this nap.

4 p.m. - 5 p.m. The last hour of the day before Daddy comes home! We will hang out in his room playing in his jumper, reading books, or doing tummy time. IMG_15685:00 - 6:00 p.m. nurse and hang out with Travis after he gets home.

6:00 - 7:00 p.m. I'll make a huge protein smoothie and drink it in while taking a bath. I'll watch videos on blog/brand development at this time.

7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Bedtime for baby! We read, swaddle, and watch the mobile above his crib (that he doesn't use yet) until 7:30, then I nurse him and I used to let him fall asleep while nursing but for the last week we are trying to keep him awake so he can learn how to put himself to sleep. It's not going too well. Travis can get him to sleep pretty easily, but he just won't for me. I think it's because he gets made he can't use me as a pacifier after being able to do so for the first 4.5 months of his life. We recently transitioned him from the halo blanket to a zipadeezip so that's progress!

8:00 - 9:30 p.m. Head downstairs to work, play in my planner, or do some more cleaning.

9:30 p.m. Head to bed and tell myself I will absolutely, 100%, not stay up playing on my phone past 10:30. It never happens. I almost always stay up closer to 11:30. I just love zoning out in bed!

I'm pretty happy with the little routine we have going. I'd like to actually start going to sleep when I say I will as babe often wakes up to eat around 2 a.m. and again at 4:30-5 a.m., so I'm getting about 6-7 hours of sleep broken up into three segments.

I'd also love to have more time to relax at the end of the day, but I usually spend most of it working. My goal is to start doing super focused work sessions on the weekend when Travis is here to help so I can get more done for the coming week. I was pretty successful at it this past weekend and took all my blog photos for the week, and wrote this post!
