My First Mother's Day, Postpartum 5k, and New Car!

I'm pretty sure I had one of the best weekends of my life this past weekend. Actually, I'm certain of it.

On Saturday I ran my first postpartum race, the Chena River 5k. They had women doing Jazzercise to warm everybody up. IMG_0275

My only goal was to come in under 30 minutes. I barely made it! I haven't been running as much the last few weeks so my legs felt like led trying to keep at 9:40 pace. IMG_0276

My Dad ran it as well and beat me by 3 minutes. My goal this summer is to get my 5k time down to 26 minutes. I think I could have pushed it a bit more on this race and come in around 28 minutes, so I think taking 2 minutes off my time is possible. It won't hurt to at least try and train for it! After weeks of researching new vehicles I finally walked into a dealership and bought a new car! I don't want to say what I got (privacy concerns) but it was a compact SUV. In the 16 years I've been driving I've had two cars - both Saturns. The last one, pictured below, was 12 years old and I had been driving it for nine. It was in bad shape! It survived the Pensacola flood and never quite bounced back.

Getting my son in and out of the backseat was a nightmare, and I couldn't even fit the stroller in my car. I had to put my passenger side seat down and put the stroller in the backseat. I was just over it! On top of all that there was an issue with my ignition so when I'd shut the car off and try to get the key out it would frequently get stuck. I'd spend a few minutes fighting to get it out. Not fun.

It feels SO good having a car that doesn't frustrate me! IMG_0224

I also received the most beautiful flowers from Travis for Mother's Day!Mothers Day flowers

On Sunday we went out for a picnic and spent some time exploring Fairbanks. I cannot get over how blue the sky is here. The clouds are also gorgeous and sit so low to the ground.IMG_0258

My sweet man loved his first picnic! It was the first time I packed a meal for him and felt surreal feeding him sitting at the picnic table with us. He was like a little kid, instead of a baby. So bittersweet! He had a banana muffin, some apple slices, and a few GF crackers.

We went on a 2 mile walk after lunch and he passed out like this. IMG_0361

I am so, so thankful for a great weekend with my family. My parents will be here until Friday so we have a few more days of activities planned. Having the extra help means I've been tackling some projects around the house like closet reorganization and packing up babies 0-9 month clothing (sob.) The sun is setting around 11 p.m. here now. It's going to be a beautiful Summer!

How was your weekend? Did you save all your kids clothes, or just certain items? How do you store them?
