Fitness Friday: Being Awesome Edition

Workout Wrap Up

Feb 7I had a killer week in workouts! Last week I lamented about being bored with my current workout routine. Since I still don't want to pony up money for a contract gym membership, I've decided to try and find ways to push myself out of my comfort zone at home and with my running. I really want to get to a sub 2 hour half marathon and I've woefully neglected speedwork since my marathon in November. So, I'm going to try to do one hardcore speed day a week, and start varying up my other workouts with more afternoon workouts at the gym between classes (so I can take advantage of their bikes and group fitness!)

My extra work is already starting to pay off. My weight has stayed the same since last month but I'm down 1% body fat. Muscle mass, baby! 2014-02-04 07.28.26I thought I was going to die before I made it to 5 miles on the stationary. I haven't been on a bike in almost a year and clearly I need to get those muscles back in shape! One thing that keeps me motivated on indoor cardio equipment is good tunes. A few weeks ago I was able to try out a pair koss headphones through a campaign with Fitfluential and I absolutely love them still. They are on sale for $19.99 at Walgreens for a limited time (normally $30!) so if your on the market for a pair definitely check them out! 2014-02-05 15.52.20The added workouts means I need to be extra diligent about recovery. I always foam roll after every run, but I'm going back to doing trigger point at least twice a week, and wearing my compression socks after hard runs. 2014-02-03 10.09.27Random photo of my friends dog from earlier this week, because he's amazing. I stopped by the cards to see if they had one from 'the cat'. They did, and I'm fairly certain if I get any Valentines this year it will be this one. 2014-02-05 16.15.29I came across these throwback 90's lunch staples. I've gone full-fledged 90's mode with my TV watching lately. I hardly turn the tube on during the day but every night I'll throw on Saved by the Bell or Full House when I'm going to bed. I use television for comfort like most people use food! There's just something about watching my favorite shows from childhood that immediately make me feel less stressed. During 4 months of marathon training last year I turned Friday nights into unofficial TGIF throwbacks and would only watch shows that used to be on TGIF. Seeing these snacks inspires me to have a totally 90's weekend. Eat only 90's food, wear 90's fashions .... would that make me crazy? (Or awesome?) 2014-02-04 16.05.54 Finally, as I was perusing the peanut butter selection, this young kid (couldn't have been more than 23/24) came up to me and claimed he was a peanut butter connoisseur. I laughed (because clearly he has no idea how much PB I've consumed) and we engaged in a short witty banter revolving around PB. I could feel myself starting to blush (I turn into a 12 year old when I realize people are flirting with me) and looked down and realized I was holding these vitamins for women over 50 in my hand. #iDied #TheyWereOnSale

2014-02-04 16.12.43I've become obsessed with chips and bean dip. Twice this week I killed an entire bag + can as dinner. I can't believe I've never tried popchips before because OMG they taste like regular potato chips! 2014-02-06 15.31.32Requisite Salem photo: 2014-02-06 07.36.38 Yesterday I had an appointment to get my hair cut. I normally just get a trim, but I asked if there was any way she could cut it that would give it more body. She explained a technique she recently started using on clients asking for something similar and I figured yolo - go for it.

Loved it! Easily one of my favorite haircuts ever. Will try to get better photos of it - she basically cut an extreme exaggerated layer starting about chin length and blending it down about 2 inches, then cut my regular layers more toward the bottom. 2014-02-06 14.49.49Rain is on the agenda again this weekend. I was running in shorts and a tank top Monday and it was 35 degrees at lunch again Thursday. Florida weather needs to make up its damn mind! I'm hoping to get in a long run 12-15 miles, maybe check out a new yoga studio and do some antiquing. I'd like to say I will work on my book proposal, but I know I won't.
