I came back to the real world this week and I've been way behind on my work thanks to the Holiday break. I've been going non-stop since we got home Sunday to meet deadlines and my workouts have suffered a bit because of it! Next week should be back to normal-ish and I'm looking forward to lifting some weights for the first time in weeks.
I put away all of the Christmas decorations yesterday and it was totally depressing! The Holiday's just flew by and I feel like I didn't get to do 90% of what I wanted to. I told Travis next year I want to watch way more Christmas movies, go see a Christmas Carol somewhere, put lights up outside, and make a few holiday crafts. I feel like every year I say I want to enjoy the next Christmas better, but this time I really mean it!
The house feels so empty now with all the decorations gone, but it's been nice to start putting some of our Christmas gifts away to be used. I think the best thing my parents got us for Christmas was this amazing Oenida flatware set. It came with sets for 8 people and 2 boxes of serving pieces. It's very similar to the pattern my parents have that I've said I've loved for years. It's cool to think I'll be using these pieces 50 years from now!
I've been alternating between these two bath & body sets I received. I also received a Philosophy set from my Mom and a few more Burts Bees products. I'm set for a while! Between these two sets I think the J.R. Watkins products smell the best, but Burts Bees feels better (the lotions are richer and the foot cream is serious stuff.)
Aside from working this week the rest of my time was spent hanging out with cats. I cannot believe we have THREE cats now. I feel like I'm living in the midst of a petting zoo. Before I get to our new cat, Smokey, here's an awesome photo of Salem from this week. Every time I look at this photo I crack up and start hearing the song, "they see me ridin'...the hatin'..."
So our new cat Smokey is another cat Travis had that has been under the wonderful care of his Dad and step-mom for the last few years (ever since Travis joined the Army.) We first brought his other cat, Rudy, down and introduced him slowly to Salem. They tolerate each other now, but they still fight a lot (Travis thinks they are just play fighting but I'm not convinced.)
Salem is such a big lover we knew he'd be fine with Smokey, and Travis claims Smokey is the worlds best cat so we didn't slowly introduce them to each other and just threw them in the house together. Salem immediately wanted to be his BFF and Smokey was not having it.
They've gotten better, and I've never seen them actually fight. Rudy and Smokey clearly remember each other and they've been spending a lot of time together while Salem's left hanging out with me. Poor guy! I came upon Rudy and Smokey standing facing each other and cleaning each others faces off right before I took this photo.
This week, like the rest of my life, was totally dominated by writing and cats. I'm looking forward to life feeling normal again next week, and spending the next two weeks focusing on my book proposal before I head off to yoga teacher training. Travis and I are both working to get our diets cleaned up again after slacking off these last few weeks (and I may have had sour cream & onion chips with queso last night for dinner.) Even though I don't do the whole New Years resolution thing I"m still really excited to have a fresh start in 2015. Looking back over 2014 and I NEVER would have thought I would end up married and living in Alabama. I can hardly imagine what may happen next in my life this year!
How many pets have you had at once? What is one thing that happened to you in 2014 that you wouldn't have thought would happen that year?
