One of the most incredible moments of my life happened when I completed my first half marathon. It wasn’t even part of an official race, but just a training run around my neighborhood. I was scheduled to complete 12 miles that day and I decided to push it to 13.1 because I was so close and knew I could do it. I vividly remember the moment I finished. Somewhat in shock that I just ran my first half marathon, I started to cry. I was so overwhelmed with a mix of adrenaline, exhaustion and, best of all, a newfound love of my body and what it just accomplished for me. I realized for all the years I spent criticizing my body and being unhappy for not looking ‘perfect,’ that my little legs just carried me for over 13 miles. Self-love trumps a race medal any day!
