Hello Friends; Random Life Update

I feel like I haven't talked to you all in a while. I've been working hard on crafting quality content for this site, working with cool brands/companies that I feel you all would be genuinely interested in, and keeping you updated on my marathon training. But I feel like it's been ages since I've just sat down to write whatever is on my mind, so that's happening today. Salem

I am currently soaking up every minute of my two week vacation before the Fall term starts. I still work a few hours a day on blog stuff, freelance work, and lecture prep for the next semester, but I've actually had time to slow down and do silly stuff like paint my nails (that hasn't happened in months) and start re-watching 7th Heaven (the parents make-out WAY too much in that show.)

I've had a few people ask how I've been doing with my Hashimotos/hormonal issues. Quick back story: I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease in April of 2013. At that time I hadn't had a normal cycle in a few months, and it wasn't until December of that year when I started to cycle regularly again. I think my body needed time to adjust to the medication (currently taking 100 mg of synthroid), marathon training, and trying to juggle 2-3 jobs while running all the time. I also put on about 5 pounds which I feel helped my hormones balance out as I may have been a bit too lean before (a healthy amount of fat is essential to producing estrogen!) I was worried about marathon training for Nashville and now Pensacola again that my cycles would get all wonky, but my weight has stayed the same and my stress levels are under control (usually) so everything has been fine so far! Well, aside from my stomach randomly hating me some days, but even that's been much better since I've been on vacation mode.

Salem1Outside of health and fitness things are going very well! Travis and I are adjusting to his new schedule now that his classes are in full swing for flight school. I've never dated someone in med school before but I'm assuming it's similar - and just as difficult. His hours are crazy (every other week he has to be up by 4 a.m.!) he has to spend hours after work every day studying, and do the same on the weekend, just to stay on track. I'll quiz him every night I'm around and it's amazing how much stuff he has to memorize. I have a freakishly good memory for some things (although Travis would say I can't remember anything) and even I'm blown away by the word-for-word definitions and protocols that he has to be able to regurgitate at a moments notice. It's funny to think that some of you have been reading since day one. You've seen me go through jobs, break-up's, injuries, quarter-life crises, and existential quandaries. Right now - I'm happy. I know that may change without a moments notice, but I also know no matter what happens life will go on, and I'm getting better and better at handling the random shit fate throws my way. For once, it seems like she's on my side.

p.s. My PiYo challenge group starts next week. It's not to late to join if you are interested! Just email me at Erica@EricaDHouse.com for more info.

So, how's life going for you?
