My first postpartum activity: The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk

I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation. #JimmyFundWalk

I hate to sound cliche but ... cancer sucks. It always happens at the worst times, and to the best people. I've lost two family members over the last two years to cancer. I hadn't heard of the Jimmy Fund Walk  before this year and was honored to be asked to join this event. Since it's inception the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai has raised more than $100 million to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's lifesaving mission to conquer all forms of cancer in children and adults.

I've participated in a few charity walks/runs over the years and I love that the registration fees go to help out amazing causes, and I get to indulge in one of my favorite past-times. Total win-win.

What is the Jimmy Fund Walk?

On September 27th lace up and complete one of four courses in Boston (or complete virtually from home):

  • Hopkinton 26.2-mile
  • Wellesley 13.1-mile
  • Boston College 5-mile
  • Dana-Farber 3-mile

Since I will be about 3 weeks postpartum I'm going to aim for the Dana-Farber route, but if little one comes early and I'm feeling great I may try to for 5 miles. I can't think of a better cause to motivate me to get out there and walk!

Where does your money go?

90 cents of every dollar goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Just a few of the ways the funds help:

  • Fund hundreds of important clinical trials each year
  • Buy state-of-the-art equipment that enables revolutionary discoveries
  • Fund the development of new cancer fighting drugs
  • Invest in future cancer breakthroughs by providing flexible funding for Dana-Farber's areas of greatest need
  • Support adult and pediatric survivorship programs

How you can help:

    • Join me in the virtual walk! Use code BLOG for $5 off your registration.
    • Fundraise: I raised money for the local humane society when I ran my first marathon and it was so much easier than I expected. People love to help out a good cause!

Walking is about the only activity I've been able to do consistently now in the third trimester. It's becoming more tempting to slack off and miss a few days, but now I want to make sure I'm in the best shape I can be so I can bounce back quickly and be ready to complete this walk. I'll take whatever extra motivation I can get at this point!
