The weekend started off great since I was finally able to capture this picture of the elusive Smokey! Since we brought him down with us from Ohio over Christmas it's been bugging me trying to figure out what he looks like. He's got a very unusual face shape! It finally hit me last week - he looks like a little mouse! He's the sweetest cat in the world. Rudy picks on Salem, and Salem picks on Smokey, and Smokey just likes to play and sleep by himself (unless you are going to the bathroom with the door open then he likes to come in and nibble on your thighs.)Friday night we went out to eat at the same restaurant we went to on Valentines Day, La Parilla. Last time I was there I got this incredible vegetarian dish with a cheese enchilada, 2 black bean tacos and a black bean chalupa. Well, either I didn't notice it last time or they just put it on there, but right under the 'vegetarian' section of the menu there was a big italicized statement, "all mexican rice and sauces are made with chicken stock."
I sure enough ate some of Travis's delicious Mexican rice last time, and after talking to the waiter found out the enchilada sauce is made with chicken stock. It happens. Travis always looks at me funny when I ask if the most random things are vegetarian, like beans or macaroni and cheese. I've found out after the fact that many things I assumed were vegetarian were not! The waiter said I could sub cheese sauce on the enchilada so I went with that and a black bean taco. For dessert Travis got fried banana with ice cream and I've been craving a chocolate cake or brownie for weeks now and finally caved. It was PERFECT. The brownie was huge (like 5x5") and still warm when they brought it out.
Saturday morning I went to Walmart to get groceries for the week and buy some new styling products and hair tools. It takes me foreverrrr to blow dry my hair and I finally realized it may be my 10 year old hair dryer. I spent Friday night reading reviews for various one's and went with this Remington. I also picked up a new brush and a few products, as well as my first set of hot rollers. I feel like a 12 year old getting ready for the first day of 7th grade.
I tried the hot rollers out that night and my hair looked great; for about 5 minutes. I put hairspray on before I put the rollers in and after I took them out (and left them in for about 20 minutes.) If anyone has any tips on making the curl last I'd appreciate it! I got these because I wanted big, loose curls and read a lot of girls with long thick hair rave about them, so I'm sure it's something I'm just not doing right.
I also picked up some new make-up. That eyebrow kit from e.l.f. is the best. I've been using it for years, but everything else was a first time try for me. I'm obsessed with the Maybeliline Fit Me concealer already. I tend to get very red on my chin and around my nose and after using a little of that after I put my foundation on the redness is masked until I wash my face at night. With wearing just foundation it would start to show through after just a few hours.
Yes, those are press on nails. I think they are fun. I wore press on's for my engagement photos and at my wedding. Sunday morning I went for an 8 mile run and was joined by a bit of rain on the first and last two miles. It was just a light sprinkle though so it was actually nice to run in. I went to my favorite trail (that I thought was going to be blocked off for maintenance but was happily surprised to find it wasn't!) and saw Spring has officially arrived. There were beautiful flowers all over!
I also saw a chipmunk again. I purposely ran through the trail because I know all the animals are more active during and after a rain. I was hoping to come across a chipmunk again (I just saw my first one ever a few weeks ago on the trail.) I spotted one about 15 feet off the trail, so I walked through thorny bushes to this hallowed out tree trunk I saw him dive into and couldn't find him! I told him to quit getting all David Blaine on me and walked off.
When I got home I ate about half a carton of cottage cheese using pretzels as a spoon. That is my go to snack lately and such a great way to get in a ton of protein. A few hours later Travis fired up the new BBQ and we got to use our patio set for the first time!
I just had some of my favorite marinated veggies and he made some damn good looking burgers. Even though it was still raining we enjoyed sitting outside and eating lunch. I was so excited when I found a naturally sweetened raspberry lemonade at Walmart this week! The brand is called True Citrus and the ingredients for the raspberry lemonade are; Crystallized Lemon [Citric Acid, Lemon Oil, Lemon Juice, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)], Sugar, Natural Raspberry Flavor, Stevia Leaf Extract*, Beet Juice and Turmeric (For Color).
Next weekend we are hoping to go camping since the weather is supposed to finally clear up (it's been rainy and dreary here all month it seems.) I have a dozen things on my to-do list for the week and I cannot believe this month is almost over. Although, the holiday loving freak inside of me is so happy that there's only 221 days until Halloween and 276 days until Christmas! Not that I'm counting.
I'm hoping to shoot a Q&A video for Tuesday so if you have anything at all you'd like to ask me just leave it in the comments or email me at Erica@EricaDHouse.com.
How was your weekend? What Holiday are you counting down to this year?
