This weekend was a bizarre mix of two extremes and I feel like everything and nothing happened all at once. Saturday I started the day with another distance PR of 9 miles. I mentioned on my facebook that I actually got a bit teary eyed the second I finished. I wasn't sure if I could reach my goal of 9 miles and really gunned it at the end to come in at my 10 min mile pace. I truly cannot remember the last time I've felt so proud of myself for something. I love that as a newbie runner I have so many 'firsts' to go through still! As soon as I got home I treated myself to the perfect post-run food: a protein shake and a banana.
After a quick shower I headed out for the day determined to find some new furniture. I've been looking for weeks now and I just couldn't bring myself to commit to spending ridiculous amounts of money on new furniture (especially when I hadn't found any I fell in love with) yet I'm tired of always buying used. I finally checked out a consignment store that happened to carry new pieces as well and found my perfect set! It will be delivered on Tuesday and I feel like an official grown-up now that I bough my first new sofa set :)
It's a light gray color and microsuede. To say I'm worried about Salem staining/scratching it would be a complete understatement. Any tips on how to keep kitty's from scratching (and clean up the cat poop I know he'll get on there) would be greatly appreciated.
I was running around during my normal lunch time so I brought hard boiled eggs with me to eat in the car. I'm such a dork. I don't do fast food though so I knew I had to 'be prepared' and bring something to snack on. I'm such a girl scout for good nutrition.
That brings us to Sunday and the beginning of the 'nothing' side of the weekend. After helping my parents load up their truck with furniture to get rid of I spent almost the entire day in bed. I've been doing long runs on the weekend now for a while and I'm usually fine but I was totally drained Sunday. I'm sure some of it has to do with the stress from the term ending next week but my legs were sore, which is a first, and even my Dad said a few times I looked really tired. I did a barre workout Friday which may have contributed to the leg soreness. This half marathon training is no joke. I even brought a gu pack with me to refuel for the first time and that definitely helped energize me for the rest of the run but it surely didn't prevent exhaustion after. Not that I expected it to, but I'm still trying to figure out how to not let training totally destroy my life on the weekends. If training turns me into the creepy ass grandparents from Willy Wonka who live out of their bed then I'm out.
At least I had excellent company in bed! I watched Daniel Deronda on Netflix, all 4 hours of it, and was thoroughly impressed. If you like period pieces you have to check it out, there's no Mr. Darcy but I'd still say it's one of the better one's I've seen.
Now, on to what I'm sure your waiting for me to stop rambling for!
Premier Protein Gift Pack Giveaway (U.S. Residents Only)
When Premier Protein asked if I'd be interested in trying out their products I first checked out the nutritional info on their website. I love protein bars and shakes but I'm pretty pick about making sure they are low calorie and sugar. Unfortunately, many of the protein bars out there are glorified candy bars. Premier Protein's chocolate shake only has 1 gram of sugar in it so it met my health requirements and I agreed to give it a shot. Isn't the package they sent me just adorable?! It was like opening up a present on Christmas!
As I said above I finished my 9 mile run on Saturday and hoped that the shake waiting in the fridge for me wouldn't disappoint.
It didn't. It was incredible! With only 160 calories and 30 grams of protein it has one of the best protein-to-calorie ratios I've found. It seriously tasted like chocolate milk. I'm not exaggerating when I say I will absolutely be buying more of this when I run out. The bars are equally delicious although a bit higher in calorie than my normal. I try to keep protein bar calories to about 200 and these are around 300. Solution? Break them in half! Saves some cash and it's perfect for me with half of the Double Chocolate coming in at 140 calories, 5 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein!
So, what's in the prize pack?
- 6 Premier Protein meal replacement bars: 2 bars in each flavor (Chocolate Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate Crunch and Yogurt Peanut Butter Crunch) - 4 Premier Protein shakes: 2 shakes in each flavor (chocolate and vanilla) - Premier Protein nylon bag
