Why? Because I can.
I've been dreaming of seeing snow again for years. The last time I saw snow was almost 10 years ago during my infamous Valentines Day ski trip. At first I had my heart set on NYC but I've been there before and realized I had some friends I could see if I went to Chicago so the decision was made.
I've already received a few recommendations on Holiday related things to do while I'm there:
- Christmas Around the World and Holiday in Lights at the Museum of Science and History. The description from their website: "the Museum’s 45-foot Grand Tree takes center stage in the Rotunda with more than 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments, surrounded by more than 50 smaller trees beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago’s ethnic communities to represent their various cultures and holiday traditions. Stroll through the trees, enjoy intermittent falling “snow” and savor the performances on the Holiday Stage. "
- Checking out the Holiday display windows at Macys
- Walking around the Lincoln Park Zoo Lights
- Christkindlemarket Chicago. Modeled after a German Christmas market this market has over 50 vendors selling handmade holiday gifts, candy, and German food and wine.
I honestly can hardly contain my excitement. I'm claiming this as a 30th Birthday/Surviving my 1st Marathon treat. I am a Holiday fanatic and I haven't really been into them as much as I wanted to over the last few years. I suspect this trip will change all that.
What are the 'must see/do' things in Chicago?
What trip would you treat yourself with if you could?
