The Week in Workouts

Workout Wrap UpJune 7Despite some crazy hot and humid weather this week I've been able to get a good amount of running in. I think part of my motivation has come from adjusting my schedule for the new job. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get my workouts in before work so I was extra determined to kill it this week.

The weather was actually perfect yesterday so I was able to go for a little bit longer than my  normal mid-week runs. I also came across this bird eating a worm and chased him around for a bit. Good times. 2013-06-06 06.58.21I'm not sure if I'll workout at all today. I haven't had a rest day this week so I'm leaning toward that, but I'm also itching to do some ab work so I may just do a short 30 min ab routine in the morning. The thought of sleeping in until oh ... 6 a.m. or so does sound like a pretty amazing way to kick off my Friday. {Edit: it is now Friday morning and today is definitely a rest day!}

Today I'll be working from one of our satellite offices. I was there on Wednesday as well and took a photo of my portable office.

The whole week almost feels like a blur. When I lecture on the chapter on Stress and Health in class we talk about how all change is stressful, even good things like getting married, having a baby or starting a new job. Physically my energy levels have been incredible (and I'm hoping to do a Hashimoto's video update this weekend talking about that more!) I'm more mentally drained than anything. My brain has been utterly over-loaded with information. I really like how my supervisor is training me though - she's just throwing me in and letting me learn as I go. In the past week I've spent hours learning about vascular disease, gangrene, stem cell therapy, stents, and so much more. I can now tell you what medications that end in -lol and -pril do. I'm slowly learning how to interpret angiogram results, CBCs and ultrasounds.

As I'm stopping every 5 minutes to look up a new disorder/term/medication online I've come across some interesting stuff. Have you ever seen something so disgusting that you felt compelled to show other people? I told my students in class this week I saw a photo at work earlier in the day that was one of the grossest things I'd ever seen. They made me show them. It's a picture of a woman's leg that has gangrene. If you are interested you can see it here. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Wednesday was ridiculously busy and I actually had to spend a few minutes meditating in my car before my night class to center myself. I ran into my department head on the way in and was so deliriously tired I started stuttering as I talked to her. Awesome.

As for my weekend I will spend most of it working. I am so behind on writing, answering emails and doing general blog maintenance. As of a few days ago I thought this position was part-time so I anticipated having 1 day off a week to focus on the site and wasn't prepared for working as much as I have been! Now that I know what I'm in for next week I'm going to get as much done on the weekend as I can. I've also got my usual grocery shopping/food prep, house cleaning, laundry, and a trip to FWB to celebrate Fathers Day early before my brother goes home.

As for tonight - I'm gonna post up on the couch, get some good snacks, and watch some damn television.TGIG
