Weekly Workout Wrap Up

{My reviews of DVD’s mentioned above found here}

This week was a bit less intense than normal given the sick day on Tuesday. We only managed 1 short run and with our first 5k coming up in less than a month we are going to have to kick things into high gear! This weekend Matt and I will be in Fairhope, Alabama as an early birthday present to me and we're planning to run while we are there. The city is so gorgeous and romantic - I cannot even express how much I am looking forward to this!

This week in a few of my classes we discussed motivation and emotion and how it relates to eating. The first thing I had my students do was calculate their BMI. Only 2 out of the 30ish students in each class had any idea what there's was before. Needless to say many of them were shocked once I listed the 'normal' and 'obese' ranges. We discussed the criticisms for BMI and how inaccurate it can be but, as a whole, it's a rough indicator if you need to lose some weight. It was a sensitive topic for many of my students but I enjoyed being able to bring Intuitive Eating principles into the lecture and show one of my favorite videos relating to the obesity epidemic. The video is Jamie Oliver's TED talk on teaching children about food. It is phenomenal and very eye opening so if you have 2o minutes to spare today you should check it out!

Also, I came across this great article on Mental Floss on the staging that advertisers use to make food look more appealing in photographs. I figured some of my fellow bloggers could pick up a tip or two from it! The advice isn't what you'd typically read in 'real' articles on food photography but it was fun to see some of the tricks they use. You can check out the article here.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Matt and I have so much planned and I can't wait to take some great photos of Fairhope to share with you all on Monday! In the meantime I found this amazing vintage Halloween costume of me - I have a few more to share throughout the years, this was just Matt's favorite because he said it's so creepy!
