I can't believe the Double Bridge Run was just this past weekend! I took two rest days this week which is a bit unusual for me but I'm blaming it on hormones and the race on Saturday. I tried to work out Thursday and I just was not feeling it. After last summers back issues and my more recent knee issues I've learned to back off and not push it if I get the sense I need to take a break.
Tuesday's I normally run (I aim to run Tues, Thurs and a long run on the weekend) but it was raining on Tuesday so I went with my favorite indoor cardio: Jillian Michael's Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. This workout is intense. Like, cursing at your television crazy. I even added old school ankle weights to take it up another notch.
Wednesday I was able to get my first run in since the race and it felt pretty good. My legs felt a bit heavier than normal and I thought I was running in slow motion but my time was okay. Didn't help that it was 100% humidity and I made the bright decision to wear a sweater out.
It ended up turning into an absolutely gorgeous day so I took my work to Panera to grade papers and brainstorm on blog ideas while enjoying a coffee. I try not to spend money on things I don't really need so I only go for coffee about once a month or so. Great change of scenery!
The other highlight of the week has been using my new EatSmart Precision Elite Kitchen scale. I received it a few weeks ago to review and I honestly wasn't sure how often I'd use it. I had this pitiful looking postal scale in my kitchen that I never actually used before so I didn't anticipate how practical this scale would be. I use it constantly.
So many foods have obvious serving sizes so you know the nutritional information but things like meat, vegetables and fruits can be hard to measure accurately. I have used the scale daily and have been a bit surprised that I was grossly underestimating serving sizes!
I even did a quick 2 minute video in my new kitchen showing how super easy it is to use.
How many of you use a kitchen scale regularly? If you don't, do you think it would help you eat more appropriate portion sizes?
I'm so excited to be mailing out my Valentines either today or first thing Saturday morning. I will post photos of what I made next week when I'm sure most of them have been received. I think I may even bake some treats to take into my class on Valentines. Some ridiculously over-the-top chocolate decadence that I would never make for myself! I'm also planning on doing my official post break-up update next week - appropriate timing ;)
Totally off topic, but if anyone has suggestions for good frequent flyer programs please let me know! I will be flying at least twice this year and I may as well start racking up points! I think I will be in Portland and Los Angeles for blog related stuff and I'm desperately trying to get to NYC again this Spring (tips on cheap places to stay there would also be appreciated!)
