I blinked and the weekend was over.
Friday night I went in to work at the gym for a few hours. I haven’t talked about it much on here but I’m starting work as a Personal Trainer a few days a week and the gym I’ll be working at is finally open! It’s great doing something you love because I was actually really happy to be going in to work on a Friday night. I’m so excited to meet all of the people who will be working out there and the chance I have to learn a ridiculous amount about training first-hand so I can bring back the best tips for you guys!
Saturday morning I got up and went for a run. I didn’t have any specific distance in mind. I brought a gu pack in case it turned into a long run and at mile 5 I decided I was going to go for 10. That’s the most I’ve ran in a few weeks since my knee issues and I felt incredible after!
My pace was just two seconds slower than my race time at last weekends Double Bridge run. Normally, after a long run, I’d spend a few hours working from home on the couch with ice on my knee and a heating band on my IT Band. No such luck this time. After I inhaled some post run snacks I went out to the post office to mail out my Valentines! I am SO excited for everyone to receive them. I’ll post pictures of the cards I made on Thursday!
While I was at the Post Office I got a text from one of the owners at the gym that they were pretty busy at the open house and needed me to head up there. After a quick shower and lunch I headed in for a few hours and got to meet a few more clients. They were also almost done setting up the TRX station when I left – I cannot wait to get on that thing! Before heading back to the house I stopped at Waffle House to get some coffee. I’ve been craving coffee lately and I needed some since I was already exhausted and had a long night ahead of me!
I made it back to the house just in time to meet my Dad there. He came out to attend an event at the Saenger Theater with me. He also happened to bring over one of his epic homemade salads for us to have as dinner at the house before we headed out (bunch of health freaks in this family.)
I don’t remember if I’ve ever had a hard-broiled egg in my salads before but they are going to become a regular addition. He also brought the cutest Valentines gift from my Mom (and Dad picked out the jelly beans.)
Salem has already claimed the bear as his new toy and I’ve been pretty high off sugar these last two days. What better way to celebrate Valentines?
After dinner we snapped a few pictures since we were dressed all fancy like – love dad’s Jerry Garcia tie!
On the agenda for the evening was the incredible Cirque de la Symphonie. It’s like Cirque du Soleil but done in front of a symphony orchestra! It was downtown at the Saenger, which is by far one of the most incredible buildings in Pensacola.

I haven’t been to the Theater in ages so this was such a treat for me. We had the best balcony seats and the performers were unbelievable. The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra was perfection and they played a few of my favorite classical pieces as well as introduced me to a new incredible composer – Mexican composer Arturo Marquez.
Sunday I woke up with a ridiculously long to-do list: Grocery shopping, Target, Petland, blog stuff, food prep, lecture prep, grade papers, clean, … I had to cram a lot in given it was my 1 total day off this week! It was gross and rainy out so I decided it was okay to sport pj’s/workout clothes and glasses:
I am in desperate need of new clothes so I tried on some stuff at Target while I was there picking up vitamins and a few other items. All of my clothes are either professional, to teach in, or workout wear. I managed to pick up a 2 cute shirts for Spring but failed in the pants/shorts department. I always love seeing pastel colored skinny jeans on other girls but my ex said they weren’t very flattering on me. Screw him. I tried a ton on and loved the color on me but they just didn’t fit well at all. My calves were busting out of them even when I went up a few sizes!
#FitGirlProblems.
Am I the only one still scared of colored skinny jeans?
What’s the one new thing I should buy for my wardrobe this Spring? I’m totally fashion deprived – I need your help decided what’s ‘in’!

seriously you HAD ME at the pic of you and your dad.
I wish mine lived closer….
I try to take full advantage of the fact that my parents live an hour way and see them as much as I can!
The weekend flew by for me too! That is a great shot of you and your dad :)
Thank you! It was hard to get a decent one with zero natural lighting and the self-timer on the camera!
That’s awesome youre going to start training people! You will be SO good at it!!!
I really want some colored skinny jeans (I have red ones, but I want pastel ones) but my bootay might be a littttttle too big to pull them off comfortably ;)
Looking back on it I don’t think I’ve seen many people aside from teeny tiny high school girls wearing them …
I’m tres excited to start training! It’s weird working in a gym for the first time and being surrounded by people who are as obsessed with health and fitness as I am!
I totally know what you mean about the skinny jeans. My calves aren’t even big, but I have a hard time wearing them and I always wonder who they actually fit. I finally found some at H&M and they are pretty good. I got pastel mint green colored ones and LOVE them! :)
Also, really awesome that you’re a personal trainer! I’d love to do that!
UGH. You have no idea what I wouldn’t give to be near an H&M! I’ve only been in one once, in NYC, and fell in love.
I have the same problem with skinny jeans! They are super cute, though. I just have to admire them fro ma distance! hehe
The only pair of jeans that I own (yes, I currently only own one pair!) are from Old Navy’s kid section. I should actually swing by and see if they have colored one’s! They fit my midget frame the best :)
I have one pair of fuchsia colored skinny jeans and in the past year I think I’ve worn them once! I see such cute outfits with them on Pinterest, but I can’t seem to pull them off.
I’m thinking the same thing may happen if I buy any! I think I’d go with a pastel blue color since they’d probably go with the most. I also don’t want to look like an almost-30-year-old dressing like a 16 year old.
Crap I’m old.
I just bought a pair of those pastel pants. It was a blue pastel color. I like them
I really wanted the blue one’s! I thought about getting the bigger size to fit my calves and wearing a belt to cinch the waist but I’ve never worn belts before.
Don’t do it! I did that with a pair of gray skinnies I bought and I’m regretting it because they don’t feel right and look a little saggy in the butt. =\ Thank goodness they were cheap (from Rue 21). It’s worth it to hold out for a good-quality pair that actually fit your leg. A lot of the cheaper places, like Target, only make skinnies for girls with toothpick legs, lol. But they’re very much in for all ages so the trick is to get a good brand. I love American Eagle’s skinny jeans and jeggings, although they don’t have many colored ones right now.
Man I haven’t been in an American Eagle in years! I definitely need to get to the mall this week. I promised myself after years of regretting it to never buy anything that I have to wear ‘on contingency’ – like a pants that would only work ‘if’ I had a belt, or certain shoes, or something. 99% of the times I’d never wear it!
Me too. I think that’s one of the moments when you officially cross over from teenager to adult. ;-) When I was younger I bought anything I liked, regardless of whether it was functional or not!
You can totally do the pastel skinny jeans! don’t let your ex’s words intimidate you. Also, your pic with your dad is awesome!
I always thought they looked cute on me – he was just hatin ;)
I LOVE colored jeans and have a ton of colors. all my skinny jeans are pretty tight in my calves too (#runnerproblems) but I’ve found I REALLY like the Old Navy SweetHearts. Some people swear by the rockstars but I find they are cut too skinny for me and I have to go up a number of sizes.
Embrace the color! ;)
Yay! I was going to try Old Navy and now I’ll definitely be stopping by asap!
I have that pink color! But from NY&C. Target ones just didn’t seem to fit right for me, either… (though it may have more to do with post-baby pooch on me ;) )
NY&Co is the only place that has pants that fit me but I didn’t even consider checking there for skinny jeans – thanks!
Pastel skinny jeans are awesome! I have a problem with Target brand pants, though. They actually look about the same on me as they do in that photo of you. I would suggest going elsewhere to get some!
I’m definitely looking elsewhere! I’m not ready to give up on my dream of pastel skinny jeans :)
That’s awesome that you’re starting to train at the gym! I recently started doing the same thing…we can compare stories, haha! Also, sounds like you had a wonderful weekend with your dad! That Valentine’s bag is too cute. There’s nothing wrong with running errands in your pj’s :) Sean Hayes was on Ellen the other day and he called them ‘soft clothes.’ That sounds better :)
Lol – I think I’m going to have to start using ‘soft clothes’! Let me know if you have any tips on starting from scratch as a PT! I’ll probably be posting about it soon asking for some of my veteran reader trainers to give us some advice.
Girl you BEST buy some colored skinny jeans because that color looks awesome on you! Also, a mint green pair would look fab on you as well. My ex used to tell me not to dye my hair because he doesn’t like “fake looking” girls. As soon as we broke up I died my hair blonde and felt more confident than ever! And my new boyfriend loves it ;-)
LOL. Loves it. Part of me totally wants to buy a pair just to walk around rocking them in spite of his unjustified fashion insult ;)
Definitely in fear of colored jeans. Takes me back to the days of tight rolling the bottoms. :)
Lol – I really didn’t care for them the first few years they were out, but they’ve totally grown on me!
I loved the color jeans but I have never tried them on because i’m scared lol.
Well I definitely vote you should at least try them on sometime to see – you may end up loving them!
I so badly want to see cirque de soleil! I bought 3 pairs of colored jeans last year, and want the pastels. I’m also a white jean enthusiast. I had the same issue with all the pairs I bought at Marshall’s, and I have baby calves. Boys have no fashion sense! Don’t listen to them! My boy knows it, so he makes me pick everything out for him, and then reaps all the benefit of the compliments he gets. ;)
After seeing this I am definitely hoping to see Cirque de Soleil soon! I never thought of trying white jeans – I *love* wearing white so I’m going to be on the look out for them now!
I have the same problem with skinny jeans- I can’t get my feet through the skinny ankle part, they are too wide at the waist or they are too long. (I’m a shortie.) Loft has great petite sizes and all kinds of washes and colors. I have a pair of purple and regular denim skinnies from them and they fit great.
I think I’ve only been to Loft once and had an absolute field day being in a store where almost everything actually fit me!
nice job on the run lady. i love hard boiled eggs on salads! what a fun date with your dad!
I’ve been on such an egg white kick these last few weeks I forgot how delicious the yolks are! I think I’m going to be totally lazy and pick up some already boiled ones at the store later this week.
I buy my eggs from the farmers market… Real chickens :) no antibiotics, really do eat bugs & not squished together… oh boy, what a difference in flavor. I know it sounds silly, but those eggs are delicious. And get this, I often buy a dozen large double-yolk eggs. The double yolks are popular, so they tend to sell out. I hard-boil them, (there is proper technique so they’re not green or rubbery) and then make a big bowl of egg salad. This goes into tiny individual containers that I take to work for breakfast. I never seem to tire of it. There is even the visual beauty of the various shades of color on the egg shells.
Ohhhh that sounds phenomenal! I only buy the free-range organic eggs which is why I rarely get them anymore since a dozen is about $5! I’ll have to check our local farmers market soon to see if I can find a better deal on them. I’d love to have eggs with gorgeous natural coloring to their shells!
You’re going learn so much being a trainer. It’s an awesome opportunity for you (and for your readers!) I definitely stay away from skinny jeans, colored or not, my legs are in no shape to be packed in there like sausages. Yikes. But good for you for wearing them anyway–don’t ever let a boy keep you from being who you want to be!
I don’t know if I’d even classify what I’m looking for as ‘skinny jeans’ … more, ‘tapered’. I’ve got such short stubby legs it’s hard to pull off skinny jeans myself!
I totally feel like I can’t pull off colored skinnies, but I really reallyyyy want to! I say we all just take the rainbow denim plunge and go for it :)
Lol – I’m down if you are! #StrengthInNumbers
You’re going to be a great trainer, especially since you know psychology and your own personal weight loss. It’ll help people stay motivated and you’ll understand them better since you’ve gone through the whole process before).
Also, great pic with your dad. It’s great to spend time with your parents while you can.
As for jeans, I hate jean shopping! I never find ones that fit. I have wide hips and I’m on the short side (5 ft 2). I also find that my body frame is better for boot cut jeans than skinny jeans (I’m not really into colored jeans).
I’m also 5’2″ and have traditionally worn just boot cut jeans. It is SUCH a drag shopping for pants that fit!
Thank you for the kind words about becoming a trainer. I definitely think my personal experiences and background in psych will help me better understand my clients and how to motivate them!
That light orange color looked great on you! Screw your ex, he didn’t know what he was talking about!
Lol – thank you!
I suck at shopping. Black skinny jeans are about as adventurous as I go! ;) I need to expand my horizons.
LOVE colored jeans!! Fringe booties, printed and pastel denim, aztec print scarves, jumpsuits/rompers are a must for spring :D
No girl, you are not..the colored skinny jeans always fit and look weird on me.
Great job on your run! And how exciting to start working as a personal trainer, that is fantastic! I have a secret goal of wanting to do that some day. I really think I would love helping others to get fit just like I enjoy it.
That salad looks amazing!
Thank you! I’m a bit nervous starting to train clients just because I haven’t done it before, but I am SO excited to be helping others reach their fitness goals.
Your jeans picture made me laugh! That’s exactly how skinny jeans fit me…too big at the waist and way too tiny in the calves. I don’t think they were created for peopele with muscular legs lol. The only place I can buy regular jeans (that isn’t in the kid section) is Hollister, but def can’t fit into their skinnies. Good luck!
Hollister used to be one of my fav stores in High School – I’ll have to stop in next time I’m at the mall!
