Detour Bars: Don’t Let Snacking Derail Healthy Eating

I am extremely picky about my snacks. I used to basically eat small meals all day long and now I try to stick with three big meals, and usually a mid-afternoon snack to help keep me from falling asleep/eating dinner at 4 p.m. because I’m so hungry.

When I think about what type of snacks to keep at the house for the mid-afternoon slump I have a few basic criteria; low sugar, some protein, and not over 200 calories. Most snack or protein bars fail one (or all) of those criteria. I try to eat real foods as much as possible but if I’m at work or running errands I love having healthy bars I can grab and take on the go. I also travel a decent amount and always try to bring as much of my own food as possible so bars are another great option in that situation.

About two weeks ago I received two cases of detours SMART bars to try out. I just ate the last one today. So, I’d say going through two cases in two weeks is a pretty good indicator of my feelings toward them. I receive both the apple cinnamon and the blueberry. Their nutritional profile is amazing, and they taste delicious!

My favorite was definitely the blueberry. Whole grain oatmeal mixed with blueberries and finished with a greek yogurt drizzle. Yum!
