Workout Wrap Up

Saturday: 6 miles

Sunday: 5 mile run + 3 mile walk home

Monday: REST

Tuesday: Shed and Shred

Wednesday: 5k + 20 minutes stretching

Thursday: Xtend Barre

Friday: 4-6 mile run (hopefully!) + Six week Six Pack

Well – as I mentioned Monday my right knee decided to stop working on my run Sunday so running this week has been almost non-existent. I’m hoping to get one in Friday before our long run on Sunday, but it doesn’t look promising. I think the problem is my hip. I woke up yesterday and it felt swollen and was popping as I walked so I may try to get to the chiropractor before the weekend. It’s been nice to get back to some pretty good strength workouts!

2014-10-22 07.23.44-1In addition to my bum knee I started the week with a sore throat. I decided to try out CVS’s minute clinic and spent about an hour waiting but I brought work with me so it was just like working from a remote office for the afternoon. Travis made fun of my pen holder. 
2014-10-20 15.14.46I enjoyed seeing this husband of the year shopping for his wife.2014-10-20 15.39.32I only went in because I usually get strep throat once a year and I didn’t want to postpone getting on antibiotics if I needed any. Thankfully, the strep test came back negative so it was just lots of fluids and vitamin C for me. I feel back to normal already!

After my night class I came home to check out this new magazine I picked up and cuddle with Salem. I loved the articles in it – well worth the higher price tag ($10!)2014-10-19 21.40.40

Gratuitous selfie I sent to Travis because I really like how it actually looks like I’m wearing make-up in this picture. Most of the time you can’t even tell, which I suppose is a good thing. 2014-10-21 10.15.19Tuesday after class I was starving so I stopped by Evermans (local health foods grocery store) for lunch. I love their hot bar, but I don’t go very often since it’s pretty expensive. This was tempeh stroganof, walnut lentil loaf, sesame noodles & peach cobbler. So Thanksgiving-ish!2014-10-21 14.21.42-1I tried my first DIY face mask this week. 1 T ground oats (I just ground them between my palms), 1 T plain greek yogurt & 1/2 T honey. Left on my face for 15 minutes. Skin felt amazing after! And it tasted delicious. I’m definitely going to start doing this weekly.2014-10-21 19.58.43I made my weekly stop into Target and picked up a new snack to try. I was finally over the trauma of the Seaweed snack incident of last week. THESE ARE SO GOOD. I ate the entire bag before I even got home. 2014-10-22 15.12.37I also picked up some of my absolute favorite soup that was on sale. I need to find a recipe to make some myself so it has less sodium, but other wise the ingredient list it all real foods and it’s so freaking good. 2014-10-22 18.42.52Now – onto my big, huge, massive, scary goal for 2015. I don’t know if I’ve talked about this much on the blog before (if at all) but I’m writing a book. I’ve been researching it for 5 years now and I’m giving myself a few more weeks of reading and researching before I go into writing mode. My goal is to have my proposal done and be shopping for agents by January 31st. I have about 10,000 words written thus far but I need to narrow down my focus a bit. My topic is SO overwhelming it covers pretty much any issue relating to women 18-50 from a psychological, scientific, and sociological context.

Since starting this blog over 2 years ago I feel like I’ve really found my voice, and being able to interact with readers has helped me discover which topics really resonate the most. I’ve always been apprehensive to tell people I’m writing a book because I ALWAYS get the same look. That “Oh, really? I wanted to write a book myself as well .. when I was 12.” It’s true. I think every other person I’ve met has said they wanted to write at some point. The only thing I have going for me is my relentless stubborn streak and the fact that I won’t be teaching anymore after I move to Alabama in December. No more excuses!

    Sorry to hear about your knee Erica, I have posts on myblog about pool running. IF that does not aggravate it, that is the best way to replicate running. Let me know if you need any advice, I have been injured a lot. Be careful with that little knee please :)Your photos are SO adorable!!!!

      Well it turns out it’s my right hip acting up. Not sure what originally happened first (the knee or the hip) but I woke up a few days ago with a sharp shooting pain in my hip. I’ve had SI Joint issues in the past and a trip to the chiropractor usually helps but I wasn’t able to get in before I headed up to Alabama for the weekend. I’ve been doing a lot of extra stretching, icing it, and probably should be running on it but just did a 5k this morning (felt great the first mile then the knee start getting tight.)

    Love the last one. Rain is so dramatic. Sorry to hear about the knee–I hope it gets better quickly, like your throat! I think the fact that you are writing a book is super exciting, and a natural progression for you. I can’t wait to hear more about it as you refine your focus!

      Thank you! I love that attitude :) As I’ve been doing all this reading as research it seems like SO MANY BOOKS all say the same thing. It’s reinforced that the only thing I really have to offer that’s different is my unique experiences and perspective.

    I’ve been thinking about what I want to write about the most, which seems to be the hardest part. I’d love to write a book (fiction, preferably), I just have to get my butt in gear. Good on you for setting goals and accomplishing things! You freaking rock!

      When I was young I wrote my first fiction work. A sci-fi piece full of dragons and princesses. It was terrible. Here’s hoping my second attempt is far better!

    I think I still have a part of me that wants to write a book…but I fear it would just end up being rambles (guess it fits the name of my blog – Ramblings of Change…). We will see how I feel in the next 10 years! Being 22, I don’t know if I’m ready to take on writing a book! Plans for the weekend? In the Twin Cities for a friend’s wedding reception and a quick get away! Hoping to get some blog work done!

      When I first came up with the idea of this book I was 26 and my views on the topic have changed SO MUCH since then! I know my views will keep evolving and changing, but that’s not an excuse for me to keep postponing this one. I’ll just have to write a follow-up in another ten years :)

  • Well I will buy your book once it’s out. I still want to write a book at some point, although obviously that’s an overwhelming goal before there’s an actual plan. I know it will work out successfully for you!

  • I hope you feel better asap and your knee is back to 100% soon! Take 1000mg vitamin c (nature made) a day and it does wonders when you feel like you’re getting sick!

    Interesting. I had been having really strange hip pain (with clicking) for about 6 months. No clue why. It just sort of showed up. Mine wasn’t really that painful. It was just sort of annoying, more than anything. I had a rolfing session about two weeks ago and told her about it. She did something with my chest and back–and it’s pretty much gone now. I’m doing 10 sessions, which is a full-body treatment since I have a whole host of aches and pains–but it might be worth checking out. My therapist will do specific one-off sessions for things and customizes treatment. I was really skeptical about it–and scared (because everyone said it would hurt)–but it was pretty amazing and not painful at all. It’s not really like massage or chiropractic, but it definitely seems to work.

      I finally got into the chiropractor this morning and he adjusted my hip right back into place! I still have some tightness in my thigh and knee from walking funny for a week but I’m feeling so much better already! Never heard of rolfing but I will definitely check it out.

  • What will you be doing when you move in with him? Not sounding trite- TJ can support us more than enough on his salary, but I still get this question despite being a manager at a global retailer!

      I will actually continue teaching online for one of the schools I’m with now, and focus on my freelance work/blog which is about 40% of my monthly income now! And write my bestselling book :)

    I’ve only been reading your blog for a short time, but I really enjoy it because you definitely have a voice (not all that common in the blog world these days!). You really nicely balance your personal thoughts/goals/life and you have really interesting and well written posts about physical/mental health, fitness, and personal improvement. Your sense of self comes across so strongly and it’s really refreshing.

      Thank you! You just described my blog precisely as I hope it translates to readers. I try to find a balance of topics that interest me (and thankfully also seem to interest the majority of people who visit my site) and add my own voice to them.
