Workout Wrap Up

Saturday: 4.4 miles (9 minute pace) Gate-to-Gate Run

Sunday: 3.5 mile walk

Monday: 3.5 miles (10:15) + Bob Harper Pure Burn Super Strength

Tuesday: 5 miles (10:30)

Wednesday: REST

Thursday: Elliptical + 10 miles on the bike

Friday: Jillian Michaels Extreme Shed & Shred + Walk

This has been a slightly unusual week of workouts for me! My calf has been sore around the soleus area on my right leg for about a week. The pain comes and goes, and it’s not overwhelming when it does appear, but it’s enough that I need to ease off on the running for a bit. I talked with my favorite running guru at Running Wild on Wednesday and he agreed that it’s likely tight muscles due to trying to incorporate to much speed work into my training to quickly after my Nashville marathon. It was only about 2-3 weeks after that race that I did a few speed runs in one week (on shoes that had about 500 miles on them!) and I think that was what made my leg scream “GIVE ME A BREAK!” So, like an idiot I ran on it a few times after the pain started but stopped after Tuesday and will try to go out for a short run Saturday assuming the pain is completely gone by then. I’ve been doing trigger point daily, icing it, and wearing my Procompression socks every day so I’m hopeful I’ll be able to run this weekend!

Monday I did my virtual 5k for Vacation Races and decided to run around downtown and the Veteran Memorial. There were soldiers, vets, and families out there at 6 a.m. having a service. It was incredible to see them in a circle around the main monument as someone read the names of recently fallen soldiers.

After that I literally ran across these incredible sidewalk chalk drawings. I guess there was a competition or something the day before. Between this and the Vets this run was easily one of the most incredible I’ve ever had!

While at Running Wild this week I realized that I start training for my next marathon in less than two months. As of late July I’ll be training for Round 2 of the Pensacola Marathon in November, the Rock and Roll Marathon in New Orleans in January, and my first ultra in February. It’s about to get real up in here! Even more of a reason for me to throttle back and take care of myself these next few weeks.

As I said in my post yesterday my ‘splurges’ for June were going to be new Mizunos, a haircut and a 5k. Well, they ain’t splurges no more because I GOT ME SOME OF THEM THERE FEMA MONIES! Thanks to my house and car flooding a few weeks ago I applied for FEMA assistance to help offset the nearly $1000 in damaged property I had to trash. Well, I didn’t get that much but it was enough for me to go ahead and order a fresh pair of my favorite Mizunos (the Wave Sayonara.) I is so happy! I have a theory in my life that no matter what happens everything always balances out (financially at least.) Last year I had this incredible freelance assignment come through for almost $1,000 and the next week I needed a $900 root canal. As long as I don’t end up in the negatives I’m alright with that.

I’ve had a cup of coffee today (my first in weeks) and I feel like my hyperactivity is translating into me rambling so I’m going to throw in these random photos I wanted to share now so I don’t turn this into a novel.

A few weeks ago Sally’s Smart sent me a case of their flavored almonds to try. Yes, A CASE. As in 12 bags which I happily shared with a few friends and my family. I love nuts but I have a tendency to go overboard with them and eat a cup at a time. Add delicious flavors to them and I was worried I’d eat a bag a day. Thankfully I restrained myself and ended up just grabbing a handful whenever I was feeling hungry between meals. I was surprised at how filling one serving (20 almonds, approximately 170 calories) can be!

As for the flavors my unexpected favorite was the lemon. I actually tried that one last thinking I wouldn’t like it and I loved it! Everyone else loved the keylime jalapeno the best.
