Fitness Friday: Sick & Juicing Edition

Workout Wrap Upfeb 28

Workouts have been a little subpar this week thanks to my body trying to fend off a cold for a few days! I was really dragging on Tuesday but now that I’m officially marathon training again I knew I needed to try to get some miles in. I follow the advice that if your symptoms are neck up then your okay to try and run (always listening to your body though!) I ended up eating this chocolate ginseng thing I got in a bestowed box months ago before I left the house. I’m not sure if it was that, or the fact that I really wanted the run to be over, but I ended up setting a 5k PR for myself!

Thursday I hoped to do 8 miles but ended up finishing after 6. We had the most gorgeous sunrise that day!

I snapped this on my run Monday:

The reason I cut my Thursday run a bit short, and the reason I haven’t had any two-a-days this week, is because I’m in the middle of a 3 day 90% juice cleanse! I say 90% because I signed up to do this last month before I decided to train for marathon #2 and I’ve been eating my usual oatmeal breakfast with egg whites to give my body some carbs and protein still. I also had a half a banana before I went on my run Thursday. The first mile felt like I was moving in slow motion but then I had this surge of energy and ended up having a great run! I will tell you all about the juice cleanse experience next week once it’s officially over (today is my last day.)

I randomly found this in my purse at work this week. I originally found it on the ground at Fort Pickens a few weeks ago. I get really, really giddy when I find random fantastical things like this. So, ‘refinding’ it in my purse made me uber smile.

This weekend is hardcore Mardi Gras craziness downtown. I’m not sure if I’ll be going to any of the parades. Since I’m not a fan of (1) day drinking or (2) crowds of drunks then there’s not much appeal in them for me. There are a few things going on I may try to make it to. A ‘roaring 20’s night a the Saenger with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra putting on music from that decade, and a production of The Great Gatsby at Pensacola State College. I’m also supposed to do an 18 miler but since my miles were low this week I may just do 16. We’ll see how I feel!

What will you be doing this weekend?

Is Mardi Gras big in your town? The entire month of February has been dedicated to it down here!

Congrats on your 5k PR! You’re so speedy lady! I’m very interested to hear about your juice cleanse experience. I’ve been toying with the idea of maybe, possibly one day doing a short one but am just am so hesitant about it. They are pricey, and I am just not sure I buy into the whole logic behind them, but still, the curiosity of trying one lingers in the back of my mind because I’ll never know until I try it myself! If I did do one, I’d probably do one like you are doing so I could still eat my morning oatmeal and no more than 3 days because I think even that would be really hard. No big plans this weekend, attempting to study perhaps, if I feel like it lol But I really should errgh. Im hoping the weather is good, its been really rainy and windy. Well I say that and its like gorgeous and sunny out right now, but its Scotland so by the time Im done today it will probably be raining with crazy wind! Darn crazy Scottish weather!

Your mentality is exactly what I thought going into the cleans! Not convinced of it’s benefits after reading conflicting research but very curious still. As I’m sitting here midway through day 3 I can say it’s been awesome and a bit challenging. I’ve caved a little and had a few pieces of fresh fruit on top of my oatmeal in the morning. I can’t wait to talk all about it next week! I’m hoping to do a video review since I have SO many thoughts on the subject.
I’ll trade places with you to enjoy some of your rainy Scottish weather any day!

  • I hope you’re feeling better now. I’m trying to get over a head cold so I feel for you.

It’s so beautiful where you run.

I am very fortunate to run in such a gorgeous area! I hope you feel better soon. Load up in vitamin C and zinc! Two days of that and I was able to get over my cold.

I feel like we are both in similar spots. I’m too training for a marathon. Although this will be my first. I haven’t commited to a juice cleanse yet, but this weekend we are getting back to juicing which I am super pumped about. You rocked this week for being sick! Goodness, Way to go!!
I hope you feel better. I have a Friday fitness linkup (http://mommyhoodandmarathons.blogspot.com/2014/02/fitness-friday-long-distance-running.html) if you are interested, if not, no biggies. I check back next week to see how you rocked it!!

    Much Love,
    Hannah

  • The pictures you take while running are beautiful. Let us know how the full cleanse goes! Congrats on the 5k PR by the way! We’re grading to Arizona this weekend. Cubs spring training game on Sunday!

I’m definitely spoiled here by the scenery! I made it 2.5 days on the cleanse before caving. Just shot a video talking about it that I will have up this week. Hope your having fun in Arizona!
