Fitness Friday: THE SNOW IS MELTING! Plus my lunch obsession.

Last weekend I said I was going to try and manage my time a bit better so I spent more quality time with my son, and less time trying to juggle multiple things at once. I’m happy to report I did well on both accounts! It certainly helps that my latest grading project ended a few days ago so that frees up 20 hours a week.

The weather finally warming up is helping my mood too. It finally feels like Spring here. We’ve had temperatures in the 40’s all week, and I’ve been trying to get outside as much as possible.

Nutrition has been on point all week except I did eat a doughnut on Tuesday. Travis brought a dozen home that morning after working an overnight shift and I just couldn’t help myself. I enjoyed every bite, and then got right back on track with eating gluten/sugar free.

I always talk about the nightly protein shakes I have. I look forward to them all day and they genuinely taste like a chocolate milk shake to me. I throw in a scoop of chocolate protein powder (I love Premier Protein), a big handful of spinach, a sliced up frozen banana, enough ice to reach the top, and then pour in unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and top it off with a tablespoon of cocoa powder and a squirt of honey.

I made the chickpea salad from Oh She Glows. You guys.


You have to make this asap. I ate the entire batch at once (it was feast day it’s all good.) I made it again yesterday and managed to save half of it for lunch today. I had a few GF crackers on the side but honestly it was so good I loved just savoring the taste of it by itself. IMG_8630

I took a few walks with baby boy to soak up the sun since the ice has finally melted off the sidewalks. I ran a 5k yesterday morning at home, and planned to just walk when I took him out but I was so damn happy I could run I couldn’t help but throw a few sprints in there. Not very easy to do with a stroller but I can’t wait to run with him outside this Summer.IMG_8668

It’s getting light out longer every day now and it stays somewhat light until about 9:30 now. By mid June it will be light out nearly 24 hours a day (a few hours of dusk.) We’ve got blackout curtains up in the bedrooms but it’s still weird to be sitting in the living room and having it look like it’s the middle of the day outside when I get ready for bed.

We are a few weeks into Baby Led Weaning and babe and I are having so much fun with it! He’s tried sweet potatoes, bananas, carrots, applesauce and broccoli. His favorite so far is broccoli, and I think he’d like applesauce more if he was able to feed it to himself. I think letting him feed himself has really helped with his motor skills and eye-hand coordination. Despite what the photo below shows. Yesterday he was in just a silly mood and kept holding his sweet potato to the ceiling like he was offering it to the potato Gods. IMG_8669

There are a few events going on we wanted to take baby to this weekend. I can already tell the town is buzzing with energy and things to do now that the weather is warming up. We plan to spend a lot of time outside, I need to do some house cleaning and food prep on Sunday so I don’t have to do as much during the week, and I’m shooting some videos for my boot camp and eCourse I’m working on. Busy. Happy. Yay.

    OMG that picture of Baby with the hand. I can’t take it. This weekend is the River North Donut Fest. It is also midpoint between Alex’s and my birthdays. Put a candle in it.

  • The trail mix cookies by OSG are some of the best I’ve ever had. Neil asks me to make them a lot and he doesn’t even like sweets. They are so amazing.

  • I have a can of chickpeas in my pantry and didn’t know what the heck to make with it until I saw your Instragram photo of it the other day! Definitely making it tomorrow :) That photo of your son is pretty damn funny. I’ve started prepping freezer meals and snacks for us before the baby arrives so I’ll be doing that tomorrow while Tyler does homework – fun stuff, haha. No big plans though- we’ve been busy the past 4 weekends so it’ll be nice to do whatever the heck I want! :)

      I made the chickpea salad again today and ate it all. It’s so addicting! Plus it gets me eating things I normally don’t, like celery and bell peppers.
