Remember that time when I could actually run without pain? Yeah – I don’t either. That 10 miler on Sunday was supposed to be 18, and I really shouldn’t have been running on it at all. I’m just so stinking stubborn. I went to the chiropractor Tuesday (more on that in a minute) so I’ve been doing some low-impact workouts since then.

2014-10-29 08.28.40I tried to run Thursday and made it a mile before my knee started to hurt so I did the smart thing for once and decided to just walk for a while. It was a beautiful morning out!2014-10-30 08.24.36-1So I should have gone into the chiropractor last week, but by the time I called Thursday morning they were booked up for the day and I was heading to Alabama that night. I finally got in Tuesday morning and they started me off with 15 minutes on the heated, pulsating massage table.2014-10-28 09.47.24

My right hip had been popping out every time I walked, and my right knee was buckling out to the side with every step. The Doc adjusted both my hips and my upper back (he also helps with my TMJ pain) and I left feeling immediately better. Every time I’ve gone in, usually once or twice a year, I’m back to normal within a few days.

I had to head straight to class after so I swung by Fresh Market for some snacks to hold me over.
2014-10-28 10.33.22I tried to take it easy on myself the rest of the day. Salem played nurse.2014-10-28 15.54.25Classes are going well and I’m in shock they will be ending in 6 weeks! I’m excited to move to Alabama but I’m going to really, really miss teaching. It’s stressful when I’m teaching 5-6 classes but I hope to always teach at least one class a term. I feel most alive when I’m teaching or running.

Finally, just because he looks so regal.IMG_7906Travis and I don’t have any big Halloween plans. The weather is supposed to be perfect this weekend so we are hoping to do a little hiking Saturday, and if my knee is feeling up to it a long run on Sunday. We have a few wedding details to finalize (can’t believe it’s next weekend!) and we both have a lot of work/studying to do so I’m hoping we are able to find a balance between work & play. I may also have to hit up some after-Halloween sales to find some costumes for Salem. Just because.

What are your weekend plans?

Do you dress up your pets?

  • My cat would not be a happy camper if I dressed him up! Sorry you’re still having pain with running. My knee was bothering me this past week and after 2 rest days I’m hoping to get my whole long run in tomorrow! Good luck this week and rest up.

I hope your hip-knee are feeling better–a) that sounds terrible and b) ain’t nobody got time fo dat. I think that the likelihood of Salem tolerating a costume would be slim to none. Zoe doesn’t even like being hugged all that much (unless it is on her terms) so the chance of her donning an outfit is maybe in the negatives.

  • I know it’s expensive (even with insurance), but seeing a sports chiropractor once a month (especially during marathon training) has definitely helped my running (and recovery). With your goal to run an ultra, getting regular adjustments can really help make it a less-painful process.

Good luck with the upcoming race and wedding!

Oh I lucked out and found the BEST chiropractor and even without insurance he’s only $35 a visit! I can definitely swing that monthly. What do you have adjusted when you go in?

We are going out tonight, but most likely taking it easy for the rest of the weekend.

Lately, my hip keeps locking up. Instead of cracking like it feels like it needs, it just moves about 60% of the way to the sweet spot, then stops. Annoying. The only thing that has helped me is running. For some reason that loosens it up (opposite of your problem, that sounds awful) enough to crack it. But oh man, when it does. So good. It’s really helped me log the miles, but I just wish it would be normal.

When I have my next cat, he will suffer through many costumes. I can’t wait.

  • Omg the Salem cuddles! Too cute!
