I’m engaged.

The title is pretty self-explanatory!

I’m thrilled, excited, and I still feel surprised every time I look down and see a ring on my finger.

Travis proposed Sunday night while we were at my house. He had planned to propose at the coffee shop where we had our first date (at 10 a.m. on a Saturday.) He had his friend come into town (from 2.5 hours away!) to camp out across the street and take photos. Well, of course I had no idea so the ONLY plans I made for us all weekend were 10 a.m. on Saturday!

Thankfully, he didn’t want to carry the ring around for another week so he took a knee in the middle of my living room Sunday. It was perfect. Honestly I wish I could have video-tapped it as it was all such a blur I can hardly remember what he said to me!

He even called my Dad last week to let him know his intentions before proposing to me. Dad called him old school. Travis picked this ring out himself. Kid’s got great taste.

2014-09-14 17.49.16-1We have talked about marriage & starting a family from the beginning (I think we planned our lives out together on our second date) and we both want a simple ceremony. I can’t fathom taking a year to plan a wedding, or investing a small fortune in it, so we are hoping to get married November 8th since he already had family coming into town to watch him run the marathon with me November 9th. Yes, instead of a honeymoon we are just running a race together! I’m keeping my fingers crossed my ideal location is available, we won’t have anyone in the ceremony but us, and I doubt we will have more than 12 people in attendance. As a kid I never dreamed about my wedding day, but I always dreamed about my future ‘one.’

2014-09-14 21.05.52The best way I can describe how I’m feeling is cliche, but I’m ridiculously excited to move onto the next chapter of my life. I’ve loved being single for the last few years, traveling, and teaching. I’m ready for a new adventure.

In the end most people regret spending too much time working, and not enough time just enjoying life with loved ones. I have no idea what the rest of my life will bring but I’m grateful to know I will always have someone by my side.

Travis darling – we’re in for a hell of a ride.
