It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

You’ll probably have that song stuck in your head the rest of the day now. You’re welcome!

If you saw my Thanksgiving post you know that Mom gave me a box of Christmas decorations that she’s been collecting for me for a few years now. When I got back into town I went straight to Winterizing my place! It’s not nearly as epic as my Halloween Decor Explosion (which I completely forgot to even show of my life size animated headless bride this year!).

You guys know that one special ornament that was always your favorite growing up? This is mine. It has a little hole on the side to put one of the tree lights in and it illuminates the little mice scene – so adorable!

I made these little felt ornaments!

All tea must now be consumed in adorable snowmen mugs. This is one of a set of 4 (with a matching tea kettle!)

My favorite thing Mom got was this Nativity Scene. It’s identical to the one she and my Dad received for their wedding (they were married just a few days after Christmas) and I always fought with my brother over who got to set it up. She found this one on ebay and it brought back SO many vivid Christmas memories!

The Christmas festivities continued Friday night as I met up with some friends downtown for the official kickoff of Winterfest. The pictures are terrible but it was absolutely adorable out.

Saturday morning I set a new distance PR! Also destroyed my favorite pair of running socks…I can’t even Christmas list those badboys I need a new pair asap!

Sunday I spent the day working, running errands and doing my food prep. I stopped by Petco to get Salem’s food for the month and saw this cardboard scratching post on sale. I passed it by a few weeks ago and thought he would love it so I went ahead and got his Christmas present a bit early. He was so excited!

I’m sure he’s like most cats and shows little interest in any ‘real’ cat toys. He LOVES boxes. Like, anytime there’s a cardboard box around he’ll sit there and lick the sides of it until I make him stop. I call him a pervert.

The box took me about 10 minutes to set up and it was enjoyed for about 30 seconds before it collapsed on Salem. It said it supported cats up to 20 pounds – it lied! Salem was so embarrassed.

Fortunately, I had already covered it in catnip so he was pretty buzzed and just started doing that crazy ‘roll around and lick yourself frantically’ thing. I took the top  level out and just made it one story and that worked for a few minutes until it collapsed again.

Maybe I’ll put him on a kitty exercise plan for the New Year.

I’m in absolute denial that I had 4 days off and no we are back to the grind. Only 3 weeks left in the term (not that I’m counting) then I’m off for 2. I’m on my way to my very first skin cancer screening this morning and to say I’m nervous would be an understatement. I finally quit tanning this Summer after 10 years of being a tanorexic – I know I’m doing the right thing by getting checked out but I can’t wait for it to be over!

Lol, thank you! I love how I can actually see excitement on his face in the first photo, and total cat-spazz-high-mode in the last pictures.

  • I love your Christmas decorations! We put ours up over the weekend, too, but it’s still looking a little bare. There’s a huge part of me that is opposed to going out and buying a bunch of decorations because I prefer to collect them over time, but I may just have to give in a little bit this year. :)

    Thanks for sharing!

I actually wandered around the Holiday decor section of Target for a while yesterday and fought off buying a few things. I think I have enough (for now) and I’d rather buy presents for people :) I can get a bit carried away with holiday decorating!

  • We had the same nativity scene growing up. My mom always hid the baby Jesus until Christmas morning and my brother and I fought over who got to put him in :)

    Love those felt decorations!

  • That does look like christmas…not long now huh? Cute kitty by the way…

We had that same Nativity Set growing up and my mom still sets it out. My brother would play G.I. Joes in it. I heart Christmas time!

  • LOVE the xmas decor! What app are you using?

I LOVE your christmas decorations! So adorable :) You got me excited to decorate too! I’m going shopping for a new Xmas tree this week. Woo

I hope you share photos of the tree! I’m so glad my Mom surprised me with the tree this year. I didn’t have one last year and thought I wouldn’t care about not having one again, but it has made a HUGE impact on my Holiday cheer levels :)

Ahh yes, I think a Christmas tree really does make all the difference – it’s the MAIN attraction and it’s necessary. First two years of college, we didn’t have a tree and I could barely even tell the Holidays were here.. but then last year we had one and it was just so.. CUTE throughout the whole Holiday season. I can’t miss out on that cuteness factor again! :)

  • One of my best friends always makes fun of me for decorating the day after Thanksgiving, but in the busy holiday season, it’s the best day to do it since I’m home! I love your decorations, and maybe I’m a nerd but it totally warms my heart to see other people’s decorations and traditions- so cute!

    Happy holidays!

Awww I’m glad you enjoyed the few decoration photos I shared :) I still remember Mom getting mad at us growing up because we would rush through Thanksgiving dinner just to start decorating immediately after!

My family had that mouse tree ornament as well and it was always one of my favorites too :) Love the blog by the way. I wish I could have seen your break-up video when I was going through a break up a few years. I certainly did not have that healthy of an attitude about it.

    • Erica House says:

I think Mom told me she got the ornament through Avon or QVC or something – I wonder how many other kids grew up with it :)

This break up was definitely MUCH smoother than my last. I’ve had the epic bad break-up and just didn’t have the energy for it this time!
