Matt and I wanted to take it easy Saturday to prep for our 10 mile hike today, so we decided to check out Gibbs Point and brought along a picnic lunch. Outdoor Gulf Coast had a great write-up on the area and I was sold as soon as I saw a paved path that went along the water. To get there just take Gibbs Road south until you dead-end at the water (it’s also listed as Navy Point Playground on Google Maps).
The path goes for about 3 miles and there is a fantastic park in the center of the short hike. I didn’t think to take a photo for the parents out there who’d like to bring their kids – I promise to keep it in mind next time! My brain isn’t quite mommy-centric :)
The trail is wide enough to walk together which is a welcome change from the tiny trails we’ve been encountering lately. I was surprised to only see 3 other people on the path for the hour we were there! My only complaint is a lack of shade in some parts. It started to feel pretty hot toward the end and I regretted not having a hat but other than that the park was surprisingly well-maintained and really quiet.
We walked the entire trail in about an hour and took one last look at the water before we got in the car.
There weren’t any picnic tables so we took our lunch to Bayview Park in East Hill. There were people everywhere, playing frisbee, putting their boats in the water, BBQing,…I love this time of year!
Yes, I actually brought cinnamon and truvia with me to put on my apple. It’s just so damn good I can’t imagine eating an apple plain now! Matt was starving so I just snapped the one pic and let him devour his turkey sandwich.
Matt also brought one of his favorite snacks with him – a “That’s It” bar. They are so good we actually bought about 20 of them last time we were at the Whole Foods in New Orleans.
We had a squirrel eyeballing us the whole time. As usual I tried to go over and make friends with him and he ran off :(
The day was literally perfect. We hung around the house that afternoon then made our favorite DIY Mexican Tostada’s and headed to Barnes and Noble for a bit. We go so big on the weekends. It always reminds me of that line from Old School “Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we’re going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don’t know, I don’t know if we’ll have enough time.”
What’s everyone else been up to this weekend?
Has Will Ferrell done anything funny lately?
