Plan with Me: Workouts + Meal Plan for the Week (and a Salem update!)

February 7th, 2016 | Posted by Erica House in Fitness | Health | Life

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to send well wishes to my favorite furbaby! I’m so happy to say Salem did great at the vets on Friday and is recovering nicely at home.

Salem pre dental

Once he was under anesthesia and the Vet was able to take a better look at things he called me to say three teeth would need to be pulled. I knew he had one in the back that was slightly abscessed so it was disheartening to hear two more would come out, but I know it was for the best. Travis was the one to pick him up and I was surprised that they sent the teeth home with him!

The last time he was under anesthesia, when he was neutered at 7 months old, he had a terrible time recovering from it. I let the Vet know and he gave him extra fluids while under and kept a close eye on him before letting him come home. Even still he was unable to walk steadily until about 24 hours later. It broke my heart to see him trying so hard to get up and around and just falling over himself and walking into doors and walls. He’s almost back to normal now. He jumped up onto the couch yesterday and laid down right on top of the baby as I was nursing him. I loved our little family cuddle session.

I spent most of the day yesterday cooking and cleaning. I made these jalapeno chicken taquitos for Travis.  He loves them and they are super easy to make in the slow cooker. They make about 15 large taquitos so enough for 3-4 dinners for him. Next up was this Mexican casserole that we took over to a friends house.

My menu this week is the usual!

Breakfast: Oatmeal (may try another batch of slow cooker steel cut oats)

Lunch: Cauliflower and pea macaroni and cheese

Dinner: Protein smoothie

Snacks: mixed nuts, cheese, crackers, and fruit

In my Happy Planner this week I used an adorable Valentines sticker set from Isabelle the Owl. I love her designs!

Next weekend we are attending our first kids birthday party. What is a good gift idea for a 4 year old girl? IMG_1544

My workout schedule for the week follows my usual rotation:

Monday: Arms and abs

Tuesday: Interval training

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Interval training or timed 5k (going to try to go all out and see what my 5k time is)

Friday: Arms + Abs

Saturday: 4 miles

Sunday: Leg day

Isn’t that pugicorn sticker amazing?

A new grading project started up for Pearson so I’ll be working about 4 hours a day on that. I also need to think of something to do for Travis for Valentines day! I’m slacking. We don’t make a big deal out of it but I’d love to make him something, or get him something small.

Do you get your partner anything for Valentines Day?

Are you doing any meal prepping this weekend?

  • I’m so glad to hear that Salem was doing better! I don’t know what I would do if my own fur ball was sick.

Glad to hear Salem is better. My Fogg had five teeth, including a fang, extracted two weeks ago. She also had a lump removed. Unfortunately, she had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and the antibiotics/pain meds. She was super hyper and didn’t sleep for a few days before getting ill and stopping eating for four days. She was in the hospital on Monday and Tuesday for pancreatitis, but has been making a great recovery and is expected to just get better and better. She is definitely happier without those teeth, and you can’t even tell they’re gone unless you open her mouth. So glad your kitty is doing good now too.

As for a gift for the 4 year old, I always like to get kids things they can create. Like all the materials for a craft project or a jewelry making kit to do with mom. Or anything science-related that’s super cool work–like a play-doh making kit. It’s super easy to put together and stuff their parents can do again and again if you give them the recipe.

For V-Day, I always liked to give things I made like paintings or mixed tapes. Or a tour of my hometown on video. Or I would make a dinner of my favorite foods from when I was 12. Just stuff to share more of myself with my guy.

Your poor little girl! I’m glad to hear she’s doing better. I love your gift ideas. I was thinking of something hands on for the girl. I’ve also come up with a great handmade gift for Travis. Don’t think it will be done in time, but it’s the thought that counts!

Ha. What a gift! I’m thinking I might leave Travis alone with the baby for more than 2 hours for the first time this weekend. Maybe 6-8 hour stretch where I’ll go hang out at a bookstore and grab lunch.

How is your postpartum weight loss going? I had a baby in early November and 30 lbs fell off during the first 3 weeks and then I haven’t lost a pound since… It’s so frustrating because I’m working out and counting calories and still not losing weight. I have 13 lbs to go and I feel like it will never come off at this point.

    • Erica House says:

I gained 37 total, and lost the first 20 in 7-10 days. I lost another 10 in the following 8 weeks, but I’ve been at a standstill since then! I have about 5-6 left to lose but I feel back to normal and don’t think the rest will come off while I’m still nursing. One of these days I plan to do a post on my postpartum weight loss experience!
