As a personal trainer I know it’s important to incorporate a wide variety of food in your diet to ensure all dietary requirements are met.
However, I’m not perfect, and my diet has been far from it lately!
There’s a part of my personality that really likes routine. Really, really likes routine. I wake up at the same time every day (5 a.m. – even on the weekends), I eat at the same time every day and I’ll go weeks (sometimes months) eating the same types of meals every day. Here’s a run down of how my diet has looked lately:
5 a.m. 1/2 cup of oatmeal with brown sugar and syrup.
9:30 a.m. Fudge Graham Zone Bar.
12 p.m. Toast with peanut butter and an apple with cinnamon + Stevia (sugar)
2 p.m. Snack. Usually a handful of chips, some scrambled egg whites or some other 200 calorie option.
5:30 p.m. Giant bowl of steamed broccoli with nutritional yeast, lemon juice, garlic salt and a bit of lowfat mayo + 1 Veggie Egg roll
7 p.m. Snack. I’ve been killing these Publix brand popsicles ever since I got a cold a few weeks ago. I’ve also been making popcorn a lot lately. It used to be a bit of yogurt with granola. Whatever it is I keep it to 100-200 calories.
So, that’s what goes in my tummy every day. Daily calories hover around 1400 (more if I had a longer workout) and all the basic fruit + veggies + protein requirements are met. It’s so hard to break away from things that are just so easy and quick to make. However, I’m going to challenge myself next week to start changing it up some. I used to make amazing salads and wraps for lunch and I’ve been really missing quinoa lately. Also, I have a ton of recipes on my Pinterest list to make that I should start working on!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets in food ruts. What do you eat on a regular/daily basis?
