This was my Tuesday

October 1st, 2014 | Posted by Erica House in Life

The main reason I read blogs is because I’m endlessly fascinated by other peoples lives. Yeah, it’s nice to learn a thing or two or come across a new recipe, but really, I love the day-to-day life stuff. My life Monday through Friday is usually a blur. I pretty much go non-stop as the work I used to do on the weekends (mostly blog/freelance related) I now try to get done by Friday so I can spend the weekend work-free with Travis.

5:30 a.m. Wake-up. I go to walk out of my bedroom and immediately step on a dead roach with my bare feet. The sound and feel of the crunching traumatizes me for the rest of the day. I had a HUGE to-do list on Monday that I only got about 50% through so I had to get straight to work to make sure my lecture was ready for class later. I prepped for about an hour while enjoying a mug of my favorite tea (Yogi Mint Revitalize.)

e

7:00 a.m. I finished up my work in time to squeeze in a 5k. Ran into these delinquents doing hoodrat shit.
a

8:00 a.m. Breakfast. Udi’s mighty bagel which I’m OBSESSED with and a yogurt cup. I got sucked into looking at wedding dresses online so I spent an hour narrowing down my choices. My friend just bought hers offline and had a great experience with it so I think I may do the same. The wedding is in 5 weeks so I need to get on that!

9:00 a.m. Shower and eat a super early lunch around 10 a.m. before I head out to class. Leftover pasta  bake from Sunday.

b11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Teach back-to-back sections of Human Growth and Development. Today we discussed physical & cognitive grown in middle childhood. One of my students brought in doughnut holes to share so I had a few between classes. Needed the sugar to keep me going! Talking for 3 hours is exhausting.

d

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Stopped by Publix on the way home to get some more of those bagels, and had to pick up some Arctic Zero. If I ever make a mid-week grocery stop it’s almost inevitable that I’ll pick up some sort of treat for myself.
c3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Came home to find Salem like this.gI had another plate of the pasta bake and spent the next two hours creating exams for two of my classes. I fell asleep sitting up a few times. It’s been a long day but at least I have my assistant helping. i 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. I call it quits on school work and do some trigger point therapy on my upper back/shoulders. I position the ball between my back and a wall and use it as self-massage. My TMJ has been flaring up bad this week and I’m virtually in constant pain now. No fun. The TP helps so much though!jI order an episode of Gilmore Girls to watch while I eat my ice cream. The series is released on Netflix tomorrow but I just couldn’t wait!h

6:00 p.m. I take a quick bath to try and de-stress. Hoping my jaw will not clench up all night like it has been. l

6:30 – 7:30 p.m. write this post, reply to comments, and answer a few work emails.

7:30 p.m. Bed. Seriously. Well, a little bit earlier than normal so I can play Oblivion for an hour or so before passing out. kLooking back over my day and I ate like total crap. I just have no desire to eat anything but carbs lately. I know it’s a cycle I’m going to have to purposefully stop, but I’ve lost all appetite for veggies. When I realized all my meals were carb-centric I thought about chugging a V8 to prove I’m not a total carb-junkie but that’s not keeping it real. Keeping it real would be me saying there’s a chance I may make some popcorn after I hit ‘schedule’ on this post before I actually fall asleep tonight.

How much free time do you have most days? How do you spend it?

I don’t have much free time at all what with starting university again, work, socialising and blogging! Despite the added stress of being busy I do enjoy it, it makes me feel like I’m actually being productive! Oh My God, I cannot wait for Gilmore Girls ever – best tv show ever.

I work best under an ‘optimal’ amount of stress. If I don’t have enough going on, like this summer when I was only teaching 1 in person class, I go into total sloth mode. Right now I have a bit too much, but I only have a few more weeks of the Fall term!

I’m sorry that your TMJ is flaring–I hope that it gets better soon. Salem is hilarious. I love how he lolls around like a pin up. And I would liken talking for 3 straight hours as something akin to cheering at races–it actually is exhausting. With my free time, I usually try to read or watch some tv or fill it with something at least someone productive. But usually it ends up being tv/book.

I blame Gilmore Girls for getting me into a massive reading kick again. God I wish I could go back in time and get pregnant at 16 with the worlds coolest daughter.

I have free time that’s not really free time. I don’t have work but I have my kids 24/7. I usually spend it cooking or blogging! Or watching trash reality tv.

My TMJ got super bad when I was planning my wedding. Fingers crossed yours will not be the same.

I don’t really have a lot of free time these days between working 65-80 hours a week; however, I do vaguely remember Netflix was involved…or Xbox 360. I think I used to paint? And read? Sounds familiar.

  • If my day started by stepping on that….I would die, haha!
I’ve always wanted to try the mighty bagel since it is then only one of udi’s that is soy-free too! I think I should really get them now!

I told my students about stepping on the roach and heard audible gasps from all of the females lol.

The udi’s bagels are AWESOME. I actually grabbed that kind by mistake and I’m SO happy I did.

  • I loved this post! I too read blogs for the day to day stuff. I’m a nosey person. :D

TMJ is terrible. I get it all the time, especially when stressed with work and school. My dentist has been trying to get me to get a dental guard. I probably will get fitted the next time I do my cleaning. They’re just so expensive. As for the pain, you might try rubbing a little vaporub (i know!) on your jawline. It actually works. I’m not even sure why.

I’ve been trying to eliminate soda from my diet lately, by drinking fruit water, but the colas are too tempting when I’m running on empty as I have been lately. Fortunately, my meals are mostly ready to go, so I stay mostly paleo. I’ve been bad lately because I’ve been ordering in dessert to go with meals because I don’t have anything in the apt. I think I’ll struggle with carbs forever…though my Chinese herbs seem to be helping the cravings and keeping all my issues at bay (esp the thyroid). I think most hypothyroid people struggle with carbs. My last Master’s class starts on Friday. I can’t even imagine how tired I’m gonna be.

The dentist that did my 4 crowns last year took pity on me when I started bawling in his office out of pain and gave me a free night guard. It’s helped SO MUCH. I used the crappy store bought kinds for a while and they did nothing. Will definitely try vaporub soon!

What herbs are you taking? I have heard that it’s harder for hashi’s patients to stay away from carbs, which is unfortunate since they also say you should be GF as much as possible!

Congrats on starting your last Masters class!

You’re making me want to play video games (and snuggle with that big cat!) haha. Sorry to hear your TMJ is acting up again. My tendonitis got mostly better for about 2 weeks but has been killing me again. I hope your TMJ gets better soon. Also, my sister told me about Gilmore Girls being added to Netflix- definitely going to binge watch!

  • Seriously watching Gilmore Girls right now, haha. That’s awesome. I love these types of posts as well.
