Wandering Around Fairbanks, Alaska

February 29th, 2016 | Posted by Erica House in Life

After a very rough week last week I am so grateful to start off a new week with more optimism and excitement! I had a wonderful weekend hanging around outside and am starting my six week carb cycling training program today.

Friday afternoon we took little man out for a walk to enjoy the warm weather. It’s amazing how much I’ve acclimated to life in Alaska after living in Florida my whole life. Previously, anything under 40 degrees felt too cold to go out in. On Friday it was in the mid 30’s and I felt perfectly comfortable walking around in a a few light layers.

The break-up, when the snow and ice melt and the town is full of brown sludge for a few days, usually happens in late April. I’m hoping it happens early so I can start running outside again, and so the trails are cleared off to go hiking more when my parents visit for a few weeks in May.

On Sunday we went to the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitor Center downtown to get more information on local hiking spots. They had this antler arch outside and a very nice exhibit on life in Alaska inside the center. IMG_7242 - Copy

I did a quick Periscope while walking around downtown so be sure to follow me there (@EricaDHouse!)

Finally, we headed over to Creamers Field to walk around a bit. We didn’t go too far into the woods since it was running into little mans nap time but I saw enough to know I can’t wait to go back. IMG_7246 - CopyToday is my first low carb day so I’m looking forward to seeing what my energy level will be like. I suspect my headaches, anxiety and mid-afternoon energy crashes  may be triggered by consuming way too many simple carbs.

I’ve been working a lot this past weekend on plans for my online boot camp. I’m tentatively planning to launch late March to early April. The results to the survey I’ve put up about what you’d like to see in an online boot camp have been so surprising. Almost every person that has responded has said they all struggle with the same thing, and I think I’ve set up a system to help. If you would like to be the first to know when registration for the boot camp starts be sure to complete the survey and leave your email at the end. I want to be able to give 110% to each participant so registration will be extremely limited!

How was your weekend?
