Weekend Fun! Eating all the food & run all the miles.

July 28th, 2014 | Posted by Erica House in Life

Barring winning the lottery there’s no possible way this weekend could have been any better.

Granted, it doesn’t take a lot to make me happy. Good company, delicious food, and a couple of fun runs and I’m pretty damn content.

Friday night Travis and I went out to eat at the same place we went on our first date. Well, part of our first date happened there. The entire date lasted about 12 hours. We spent the day hanging out around Pensacola. It was his first time visiting the city so I played tour guide. We ended at one of my favorite restaurants, the New Yorker Deli.

I’ve been there about a dozen times and every time the food is incredible. It’s a small locally owned restaurant with phenomenal cheesecake and the best bruchetta I’ve ever had (they make it with mushrooms and artichoke hearts!) This time around Travis went with a Hawaiian pizza, and I stuck to my favorite bruchetta and a simple house salad.

2014-07-25 18.11.10Saturday morning we ran 6 miles around a different part of Pensacola. Pensacola is really interesting in that you can literally be in the nicest neighborhood one moment (north hill), and the next block over is a part of town that is notoriously crime ridden. Then, if you keep going a few blocks your back in one of the nicest parts of Pensacola (east hill.) With Travis with me we ran around the …. colorful center part between the two neighborhoods.

For the first time ever on a run I was train blocked for a few minutes.
2014-07-26 06.34.52Then I remembered one of Pensacola’s quirkier landmarks was in the area and ran around a bit trying to find it. Fortunately we did! It’s actually listed on Trip Advisor and a few of the reviews were negative because it’s really nothing special, and it’s in the shady part of town. I’d be pretty pissed if I went out of my way to see it! It’s an old ice house that’s listed on the historical national registry so that’s kind of cool, but nothing to write home about (but apparently impressive enough to blog about.)2014-07-26 06.54.57Saturday afternoon we went to lunch at Jason’s Deli. I’ve never eaten there but we swung by a few weeks ago to get Travis a sandwich to go and I checked out their salad bar and wanted to go back. It was one of the best salads I’ve ever had! Roasted red pepper hummus with couscous and sunflower seeds. They also serve FREE ice cream and these incredible mini muffins. 2014-07-26 12.41.10Oh, and this happened.2014-07-26 12.35.14That night we had a goldfish tasting party at my house. Very exclusive guest list (just the two of us.) We both agreed the French Toast was the best. I preferred the chocolate second (and finished the bag in 24 hours) and he preferred the vanilla cupcake.2014-07-26 18.24.55Sunday morning we had a 10 miler on the training schedule. This was the first LR at my 10:30 goal pace since starting marathon training with the Hanson Method. I was pretty nervous since the nearly 100% humidity has been making an 11 minute pace a struggle for me on some of my weekday runs. Fortunately, Travis is always a great motivator and we finished at a 10:36 pace! I did stop twice, but I’m alright with that and know that holding this pace in the Fall will feel significantly better. 2014-07-27 07.44.23After the run we came home and made omelet’s for the first time! Neither of us have made them before but I’m trying to break up my usual oatmeal routine. I made mine with Amy’s vegan chili and a bit of Mexican cheese and avocado. SO GOOD. IMG_7768That afternoon we watched the Princess Bride in Bed. Didn’t I tell you this weekend was perfect? 2014-07-27 13.52.12-2What’s your favorite movie from your childhood?
What restaurant has your favorite salad bar?

  • Your weekend looks awesome and perfect to me :) my husband and i had a first date that lasted from 6pm to 3am and a few longer ones following. Your weekends with Travis are happily reminding me of my pre-marriage/kid days with my husband!

Awww that’s so sweet! Since we live so far apart we had to take advantage of the time we had together :) I don’t think I could stay up with him until 3 a.m. if my life depended on it though lol.

Princess Bride used to be one of my go to movies for sure. Problem is that I watched it one too many times! The Lion King and Aladdin were definite favorites of mine growing up as well. Your weekend sounds pretty darn awesome. My first date with my husband started out with us thinking it would be an hour at a restaurant and instead it turned into a 2 hour dinner plus amovie with other friends. And then he was never able to get rid of me again. Sucker.

I haven’t seen Alladin or The Lion King in probably 20 years! Can’t watch TLK because of the super sad parts (I’m such a wuss.)

  • Carla says:

    LOVE the movie.
    LOVELOVELOVE the last photo.
Id swap watching the movie to experience the last photo.
WAIT. bed lolling I mean :-) not stealing yer man.

Looks like you had a great weekend! I’m jealous of the runs you got in, because I did not :/

    • Erica House says:

I hate missing runs! It’s not always easy to get the runs in on the weekend since we have to wake up SO early, but I always feel amazing after!

  • The Princess Bride is such a good movie! And that last picture is so cute!

Gold Fish has dessert flavors? I had no idea!

    • Erica House says:

I had no idea either until we passed by a huge display of them at Target and someoneeeee had to buy a few bags.

  • Domi says:

Good food and a good man…what more does a girl need, right? ;) Glad you had a great weekend, and good job on your long run!

  • Michele says:

Aww, you guys are so cute together. Did you ever write a post on how you met? Those omelets look amaaazing!!! Fudge brownie Goldfish?! Must try!

  • That pizza looks insanely delicious! And you look so happy– is contagious :)

    • Erica House says:

Your comment reminds me of one of my favorite lines in Elf (which I just made Travis watch for the first time) – “smiling is my favorite” :)

  • Krista says:

What fun!! :) :) The Princess Bride is pretty much the only movie I can quote! “Inconceivable!” Jason’s deli is awesome (2nd to Whole Foods, but more locations).

    • Erica House says:

The nearest whole foods to me is 3 hours away! I LOVE their food bars though.

I think my favorite line from Princess Bride has to be “as you wish” :)

My favorite childhood movies were all from Disney. I loved Disney movies so much I couldn’t just pick one!!

There is a good restaurant close to home called Shoreline Catering that has a pretty boss salad bar. But honestly, I have never gone wrong with the salad bar from Ruby Tuesday.

So glad to see you had a fun weekend! :)

    • Erica House says:

Now you’ve made me want to sit around watching Disney movies all day! I can’t remember the last time I watched one. I had the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday’s a few weeks ago and it’s always pretty good. Nothing can top Jasons deli now with their mini-muffins and free ice cream!

  • Love weekends like yours! Watching or going to the movies with Tyler is probably one of my favorite things to do together. People often think movies aren’t engaging enough for couples spending quality time together, but holding hands or laying together relaxing is one of the the simple yet awesome things in life! I have too many favorite childhood movies. Forrest Gump, Big, Now and Then, Mrs. Doubtfire, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Goonies, The Little Giants…I’ll stop there, haha. I’m interested in hearing about your boyfriend’s job in the military! What branch?

    • Erica House says:

      GOONIES!

At least once a month I randomly say, “the next time I see sky…it will be over another town.” Mrs. Doubtfire is amazing and I HAVE to watch Now and Then again soon! I’ve never seen Forrest Gump or The Little Giants. I’m with you on the ‘movie time counts as quality time together’ though. Travis and I are both so tired sometimes that’s all we have the energy for!

  • Erin M. says:

What a fun weekend! Great job on the long run! I love the vanilla cupcake goldfish. They’re so good. I’ve never had the other 2 flavors. Favorite childhood movie is a tough one. I love the sandlot and Goonies! Favorite salad bar place is Wegmans…favorite store in general is Wegmans. :)

    • Erica House says:

I’ve never even heard of Wegmans! I hate living in the South for many reasons, but one is that we don’t have nearly the choices in shopping/eating that most other parts of the country do.

My Mom just bought the Sandlot on DVD a few months ago. That movie is amazing.

  • Awww love this. Weekends with boys are the best. :) That last photo is ADORABLE. My work actually has an amaze salad bar, is that weird? After that, Whole Foods all the way. Pittsburghers aren’t about salads.
