Weekend Update: Best Run Ever + My Latest Craft Obsession

March 10th, 2014 | Posted by Erica House in Life

After last weekends long run fail I was determined to hit my goal of 18 miles on Saturday. Preparing for it included lots of extra carbs and hydration on Friday. Thankfully, a friend took me out to lunch so I carb loaded like a boss with an all-you-can-eat menu at Pensacola’s best sushi restaurant.

Post lunch activities included a trip to every goodwill in town and various toy stores in search of vintage frames and big wheels. The big wheel’s were for his 30th birthday celebration. Yes, you read that correctly.

Friday night was uber low key since I had a 5 a.m. wake up call. I spent most of the night texting jokes back and forth with a fellow marathoner who know’s what it’s like to be in early while the rest of the world is out having fun (or so it seems.) I think I was in bed by 10 p.m. and had all of my gear and clothes laid out to go – including my brand new Mizuno’s! A fresh pair of the Sayonara’s I’ve been running in for the last year. Love the new color.

I did the first and last 5 miles just under 11 min pace. I met up with a friend for the 8 in the middle and we did the hilly bayou loop at marathon pace (10:15.) My end average pace was 10:35. I was ecstatic! My goal pace for marathon #1 was 10:15 and it ended up being about 11:15, so if I can pull a 10:35 at the next marathon I’d PR. While on the run I came across this table of glorious honey and legitimately debated on grabbing run and running off with it.

2014-03-08 08.36.41When I got home I immediately went into an ice bath. I’ve found that for anything over 16 miles they dramatically reduce my recovery time. Between the bath, compression socks, and trigger point I had virtually no soreness Sunday.

Saturday afternoon I went into fort walton to hang out at the parents house/eat all their food. I called Mom as I was driving over there and told her how hungry I was (post 18 miles all I had to eat was a bowl of oatmeal.) She warned me that there was nothing to eat in the house. I happily proved her wrong. Lunch/snacks that afternoon were 3 bowls of honey nut cheerios, a protein bar, a few spoonfuls of peanut butter, a handful of sunchips, and 2 cookies.

Since it was laundry day I had to pull out a shirt I’ve never actually worn out before. I used to think it was dorky to see people wearing race shirts out but now I totally get it. Wore this blue and yellow monstrosity with pride!

Before leaving Dad and I had the bright idea to use his new pressure washer to wash my car. Yeah, don’t try that. It took the paint off my car in two spots. It was pretty funny though.

Saturday night I watched the movie High Society with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelley. I’m so infatuated with that period right now. People were just so damn classy back then. Sunday I ‘slept in’ until almost 7 before going almost immediately to work. I’ve been brainstorming ideas for some cross stitch projects I want to do and I set aside a few hours to get started on them.

I worked for a while before taking a break to run some errands. I needed to get groceries for the week and stop by Michaels to pick up primer for the frames I got at goodwill. Every time I’ve tried to spray paint something before it always turns out horribly so I’m trying to do it all right this time! The only fail was getting primer all over my hands. I like it though – makes me look like some artsy hippy.

2014-03-09 15.38.55While out running errands I saw so many people out running and enjoying the gorgeous weather that I just had to get in on that action. I went for a short 3 mile run and midway through a ladybug flew straight into my eye. They are supposed to be a sign of good luck so I’m taking this as a sign of uber good luck coming. I thought I killed it when I brushed it off my face but thankfully it survived!

2014-03-09 15.01.47The rest of the evening was spent posted up with my cross stitch and binge watching shows on Hulu. In other words, I had an absolutely perfect day.

What are your favorite good luck signs/symbols?
