Weekly Workout Wrap Up – Thanksgiving Edition

November 23rd, 2012 | Posted by Erica House in Life

Workout routine looks pretty typical. The only things that’s been changing lately is my running and I will be doing a full blog on that next week! I’m trying to get into strength more so I haven’t been doing barre workouts as frequently as I used to. I’m working on practicing in new areas of fitness to prepare for the new training gig I’ll be starting in January!

Thanksgiving was absolutely perfect. Despite a bizarrely early wake-up time (4:43 a.m.!) I was able to get a great workout in before heading over to Fort Walton to hang with the family. Mom made the best Thanksgiving meal yet – it was a gourmet quality spread!  The house was decked out in Fall decor and Christmas music was playing when I walked in. It’s always such a great feeling to come home!

The boys had steak and Mom and I had stuffed portobellos, a MIND-BLOWING carrot salad (seriously, I can’t wait to share the recipe with you all!) and an equally delicious orange, walnut & goat cheese salad.

After lunch we took some obligatory family photos. Mom is allergic to the camera.

We ate pretty early so we could make it to see Skyfall at the Rave in Destin. I’ve never seen a James Bond movie so I was pretty excited and I hadn’t been to a movie in ages. The Destin Commons had their Christmas Tree up – don’t you love how well it compliments the palm trees?

In the theater I couldn’t resist posing with the new Hitchcock movie poster.

Apparently if I am about to be murdered my go-to defense is to do the wave.

After the movie I stopped back by the house to have dinner before heading out. By dinner I mean 2 pieces of pie. Really. My Thanksgiving meal was pretty damn healthy and I rarely have dessert so I went for it. I started off with a half slice of both pumpkin and a chocolate pudding pie and ended up going back for another half slice of each 20 minutes later. Honey badger don’t give a shit.

I also found out that my Mom’s been buying and storing Christmas things for me for 10 years to give to me once I got married. She finally realized it’s probably better to just go ahead and let me enjoy the items than wait for that to ever happen! I’m lucky that my parents really put zero pressure on me to get married or have kids. I think the only expectation they have for me is to work hard and be happy. Mission Accomplished!

I’ll post pictures of all my Holiday decor next week! I’ll leave with a few random Instagram shots from the last few days. Salem decided he wanted to be the first present under my tree and it the photo of me is on my way to FWB on Thanksgiving. In a tank top. #GoFlorida.

So, who all is participating in Black Friday Shopping today? I’ve gone before just to people watch! I’m going to work a bit today but I’m kind of at a loss with what to do with myself with 3 days off – what is everyone else up to?

  • I’ve been waiting patiently to start Christmas decorating. Now that T-Day is over I’m on it! That’s my goal for the next few days…and there’s no way in hell I’m going near a store today! ;)

I’m finding myself sitting here wishing I was out at the stores, but I know the second I’d get there I’d wish I had stayed in! The Thanksgiving tradition in our family growing up was to harass Mom to let us start decorating the second we finished eating our Turkey. As I’m sitting here with an un-decorated tree I’ve realized I’ve finally grown up lol.

Your brother went to the University of Florida?? That is so cool. Almost every man in my family went there for their engineering degree :)

    • Erica House says:

He’s actually still there (approaching his last year!) and also majoring in engineering :)

I was actually going to comment on the same thing! My brother David is currently there working on his Master’s and then going on for his doctorate (he is working for the head professor on researching how hurricanes and tornadoes affect buildings so he’s getting free tuition). =) They probably don’t know each other but I still thought it was a fun coincidence!

        • Erica House says:

That’s amazing that your brother is getting free tuition! I never went ‘away’ for school (community college in town then UWF an hour away) and I always kind of regretted not having the traditional college experience. I’m sure your brother is as proud of being a Gator as mine is :)

          • Melissa says:

I bet they are. I’m proud of being a Gator, although I won’t be able to school there (I was actually born on campus in Shands Hospital). I would love to have the opportunity to attend, but since I live in Texas, out-of-state costs would be out of this world lol. UWF is also really cool. My cousin is currently at school there :)

          • Erica House says:

A lot of the locals ragged on UWF (while we were in high school at least) since it was the closest one so it ‘wasn’t cool’ to go to but I loved it there!!

  • My daughter and I braved the craziness of Black Friday at the mall and had a blast! Now it’s time to start decorating which we do every year the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Love the first photo. It took me forever to be able to do a crane. I’m sure I don’t look as good as you do going it :)

    • Erica House says:

Aww that sounds like such a perfect Black Friday! I think my crow picture is deceiving – I rarely do yoga and I just happened to see an article on how to get into crow in a magazine once and practice that one move for weeks before I was able to hold it!

  • Kierston says:

I’m headed home today after being away for six days! Totally looking forward to seeing my Family, friends and puppies :)

  • Heather says:

I always get a kick out of seeing Christmas stuff in warm places with palm trees, etc. I’m in Alberta, Canada, and we’ve had snow since Nov. 1 and it’s been, like, -15C (5F?) all month. And that’s not even cold yet! Brrrrr! So envious of you!

    • Erica House says:

I’ll swap with you for a week! It’s rather depressing when it’s Christmas out and 70 degrees. We never get to bundle up, drink hot cocoa or wear cute winter clothes :( Then the summer comes and it’s over 100 with 100% humidity like some rain forest!

  • Love your holiday recap! I’d love the recipe for your carrot salad; so colourful and festive!
I am not shopping today. Just cleaned out closets and got rid of BAGS of stuff; no need to fill them up again so soon!

    • Erica House says:

I kept trying to think of a reason to go out and shop – but every time an item came to mind I quickly realized I didn’t need it. I could also use to get rid of a few bags of stuff!

  • hahaha…. love the movie poster shot.

    • Erica House says:

I wish it hadn’t turned out so blurry but it’s the best I could do quickly before anyone walked by and I became permanently mortified by public embarrassment.

  • Yummm!!! Tasty looking thanksgiving!!!

P.S. I have a purple streak in my hair right now. I was totally inspired by you ;)

  • Congrats on sticking with your workouts during the holiday season…I sure didn’t! Great looking food spread by the way!

  • I’ve never been Black Friday shopping. It looks too crazy for me!
