Since settling into life in Alaska, and life with a baby, I’ve started leading more in person fitness classes and online boot camps. I love helping women reach their health and fitness goals! I recently taught my first full yoga class and it was amazing. I left so invigorated I had completely forgotten how much I loved teaching.
In addition to yoga classes I teach a few Stroller Strong Moms classes a month, and have completed two online boot camps. I’ve enjoyed creating workouts that are challenging enough for a wide range of fitness levels.
My current favorite workout is called “the Hundred.” It is brutal. It pairs running (or walking) intervals with mostly bodyweight exercises for a total body, calorie torching, workout. My clients love and hate it! I’m a huge fan of zero equipment workouts as they are so easy to fit into my daily schedule.
With intense workouts like this it’s crucial to fuel your body properly. For this type of high intensity training I’ll always eat a small meal with a substantial amount of carbohydrates about 1-2 hours before working out. Recently my ‘go to’ breakfast has been Zoats! Not only are they super filling, without leaving me stuffed or feeling weighed down, but they get ½ a cup of veggies in during breakfast so it sets a great tone for the rest of the day.
Now that I’m working out more since I’m teaching 3-5 classes a week on top of my own workouts I’m having to be more vigilant that I’m eating enough. Not only am I pretty active, but I’m still nursing my 9 month old, so I want to make sure I’m staying well fed to feed him and have enough energy to workout and work from home.
In October I received the Polar M400 to review and recently started wearing it 24/7 to get a better understanding of how many calories I’m burning through in a day. It’s hard for me to gauge since I’m active, but I also spend a lot of time sitting down working, nursing, or with my son napping on me.
The little triangle around 1 p.m. was the app telling me I wasn’t moving enough when my son had been napping on me for an hour! It keeps me in check!

It is so convenient to have everything sync together so I can quickly glance at my app and see how many calories I’ve burned through and what my overall activity levels have been.
I was up at 6 a.m. yesterday for a video call with my business coach, and then the day flew by as I taught part of the stroller boot camp class and didn’t sit down again until lunch time. When I checked the app I had already burned through 1,000 calories!
It’s been so interesting to look back over a few days of data and see how much activity I get in. I’m way more active than I thought I was! I felt like I was spending a lot of time sitting down nursing or with my son napping, but that’s only about 2.5 hours of my day and the rest of the day is go, go, go!
